Have a cruise question- booking w/ a TA or directly w./ cruise line....UPDATE!

We used to use a TA then got royally screwed and the closed up and tried to run w/ our $$$. the place was in business for many many years. We got our $$$, but have been scared to book w/ a TA or cruise place. My question is we are booked on Royal Carribbean for this summer- I have heard that they never discount the trips on Royal Carribbean. Do the thru a travel place? do you get onboard credit also? Are there any perks ? If yes what place would u use? this is going to be my 11th cruise , I have never cruised w/ Royal Carribbean just NCL and Princess.

*UPDATE ! * We called vacations to go and got a better deal then we ever expected, we saved almost 500.00! and got onboard credit too,and a room upgrade for 20.00 more a person. Thank you to all of you that urged me to call a TA. Chat Icon I will never book directly ever again w/ the cruise line unless there is some crazy type of sale. If anyone has other TA suggestions or website, please post them so I can always use them to see if I can get an even better price on future trips . Thanks again!

You can sometimes get a deal booking directly through the cruiseline. The only thing I've never seen a cruiseline offer is free travel insurance. When we booked our last cruise last year the travel agent gave us the same price as the cruiseline, but we got free travel insurance, onboard credits, a couple of bottles of wine and maybe another little perk or two (can't remember for sure). We almost always book through Directline Cruises.

my ta will price match, and then throw in perks

although i was annoyed at her for the last one-a bottle of champagne was supposed to be my perk and it was never delivered

Cruises are sooo easy to book on your own! There really aren't many perks that a TA can get you on a cruise that you can't get yourself.

If you need help let me know:)

You can always check out cruisecompete.com (where travel agents compete for the lowest price) & you have no obligation to book. I usually get prices through here & then go to directlinecruises.com. They almost always beat the prices I got & give onboard credit & insurance.

i booked mine through expedia but called their cruise agents and booked over the phone just in case. she was able to get us a slightly better room for the same rate so it worked out for us.
