Have any of you Trained for a 1/2 marathon while EBF?

DS is almost 6 months and I am having a real hard time toning up and loosing the belly fat. This 2nd pregnancy really did a job on my body.

Anyway, my friend and I are going to train for a 1/2 marathon for the Fall. What I am a little concerned about is effecting my supply.

I have been eating alot more these past 2 weeks, just constantly hungry and I have been pumping more to build my up supply, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with my appetite.

Just wondering if anyone trained and EBF and if it affected your supply or anything else?

Re: Have any of you Trained for a 1/2 marathon while EBF?

I haven't trained for a marathon but before becoming pregnant I was an avid runner, I mean serious long distance running on a regular basis. When I got pregnant, I was sick all the time. I couldn't run as much so I tried going to the gym and doing the elliptical but I would get sick every time. I gained a lot of weight. I THOUGHT that most of it would come off after I gave birth because I EBF but I actually gained weight! Pre pregnancy I was a 2/4 now I am a 12/14! BF makes me SO hungry, I can't stop eating the entire day. I tried to cut back and I also tried to start working out but my supply dropped to almost nothing so I am just accepting for now that I have this weight on me and when I am done EBF in August when DS is 1 I will start the task of getting this weight off by getting back to running and going back to a low carb diet.

I would say try to train. I tried and it didn't work for me but that's me so hopefully it will be different for you. If you start to notice a drop then I would probably cut back on the running. With the appetite though, I think the combo of BF, pumping and running is going to make you super hungry due to all the calorie burning.

I would say try it out. I've been working out since 3 weeks pp. I run 3 miles/day 4xper week. I exclusively BF and my supply has been the same (knock on wood). DS is 5 months.

I was a runner pre-preganncy too.

I'd start training slowly, and let your body get used to it. Good luck!

I would just make sure you stay very hydrated. Drink water before, after, and all day long. I think the biggest problem will be the heat and sweating...hence hydration.

Good luck and happy running!

Any time I tried dieting or exercising while EBFing my supply went to almost nothing, so I stopped trying. Then I got AF and the same thing happened. I read on kellymom about taking a calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement and since then I have had ZERO supply issues!!! I've been doing weight watchers and I started the C25K 5 or 6 weeks ago without it affecting my supply Chat Icon Maybe you could try that and see if you can start running again?

I actually want to do the same thing. I was an avid runner pre-pregnancy.

I would try it and see how it goes. I actually just started working out again and my supply actually has increased. I'm not sure if that's because the baby's needs increased or because of exercise. But this last week when I returned to the gym I noticed an increase in supply.

I did, and I didn't have any issues with supply. I also eat a ton though, and like OP said, make sure you stay hydrated!
