Have people lost their minds or is being unprofessional the norm today?

I am totally flabbergasted. I work for Commercial Real Estate Developer. I have had two incidences in the past 2 weeks that have totally left me Chat Icon

First, outside our office in a building that we own is a post box. By accident I dropped checks I was supposed to deposit in the post box with letters I was mailing Chat Icon I immediately contacted the post office, explained the situation and spoke with a nice woman who told me to wait for the mail carrier, that he would be able to give me the checks back if I showed him proof they belonged to me. As soon as I got off the phone with her, the mail man pulled up. I got out of my car. Explained the situation to him and that I spoke with someone from the post office and they said he would be able to give them checks to me, yada yada. The first thing he said to me was "Lady, I ain't flucking giving you anything. I ain't losing my flucking job for you!" Chat Icon Chat Icon I stayed calm and said ok. let me call the woman back who I spoke to and see if there is another way to go about this. He asked what number I called and I told him. He than accused me of it being the wrong number and gave me a different number. The same woman picked up (I guess he didnt realize a post office may have multiple phone lines Chat Icon ) Anyway, he spoke to the woman, of course very nicely and she told him the same as me. As soon as he hung up the phone, he verbally attacked me again. I finally said, "Sir, I think you are being extremely rude and unprofessional. There is no need to curse at me. I will go back to my office and get you what was asked for." He continued to curse at me as I walked away. Finally I turned around and said "I would like your name. I am gong to file a complaint" He refused to give it to me. I came back with the deposit books he asked for to show the checks belonged to me. As I went to grab them he pulled them back and said "Lady, next time you want something dont threaten to report me" Still calm I said, "I asked your name and told you I was going to file a complaint after you cursed at me numerous times and continued to badger me over a 5 minute period.." What do you know...he continued to curse at me. Chat Icon Finally I called him an a-hole and walked away Chat Icon

I am still thinking W*T*F just happened? Chat Icon

Second incident occurred yesterday. One of our tenants, a large company, requested additional cleaning services in their suite. The cleaning crew set off the alarm at 1:30 in the morning by accident. The alarm company called the CEO. Today we received an e-mail from the CEO using continuous profanity and dropping the "F" bomb continuously. At one point he said "tell your cleaning crew if they wake me up again I am going to flucking kill them!" Chat Icon One, as a CEO very unprofessional although I can understand him being angry. His way of going about it was wrong. Two, he should know better than to make statements like that in writing!

I think what got me the most was that the mail man verbally attacked me Chat Icon

He could have said "I'm not sure I am able to give the checks to you directly. let me contact my office and see how we can go about handling this" NOT "Lady I aint flucking give you anything"

ETA: DH thinks I should file a complaint.

I would still report the mail carrier. What nerve! I am sure if you call the post office and tell them the location of the box and time of day they will be able to identify who it was. There is no excuse for that type of behavior. I can't believe how professional people act and speak. Ad we wonder why society is becoming the way it is. Chat Icon

i definately think you should file a complaint. even though you didn't get the man's name, the PO will know who was working that route.

Re: Have people lost their minds or is being unprofessional the norm today?

people suck..really.

Now in our office they moved us to a new floor that is still under rennovation. Besides being subjected to noise, dust, demolition all day long for weeks, we got to listen to crew workers yelling at one another. One morning they were fixing a pane of glass. Most people hadnt arrived yet so the worker was on his phone cursing up a storm how some poor schmuck Anthony measured the window pane 1/4" too long. My coworker and I hear him a few feet away and were just flabbergasted at his language. My boss had to get the foreman and tell his worker to knock it off.
Finally the cursing worker says "i have to watch my mouth people are starting to show up for work." Chat Icon Chat Icon

not only that, now that they've crammed so many of us onto this floor with a new open layout (--->cubicles) we have to deal with everyone's filthy habbits...like slurping their coffee, munching on chips loudly, and walking around a dirty office floor in filthy sweatsocks.

What is wrong with pple??

I would still file a complain against that worker. Everyone is sooo self centered these days.

ITA - people will only change their behavior if there are consequences.. maybe. or maybe he'll continue to be a rude jerk. But he should still be reported. it's a federal job that i'm sure a lot of other people would like to have and he shouldn't treat 'customers' like that!

Totally agree. You do not need to know his name to report him. They know who is working what route.

Definitely report him. DO IT.

People who have jobs they think are secure aren't necessarily secure.

Imagine how happy an unemployed person would be to have his job, his pension and his benefits.

That postal worker needs a big azz whooping!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm sorry you had to deal with that! By accident a couple years ago the mail carrier that comes to my work grabbed the stack of payroll checks off my desk by accident! Chat Icon It was a few hours before I even realized they were gone!

Luckily I got ahold of some really nice employees at the post office and went to their main location and they found them for me. I actually hugged the guy when he came out with my still rubberbanded stack of PR in their envelopes!

I agree with your DH!

It doesn't matter that he didn't give you his name, the PO will know his route and that he is responsible for that particular mailbox.

If he doesn't want to lose his effing job, he should consider being more professional.
