have to take toddler DD for a sono and VCUG
My 2.10 yo DD has a UTI- confirmed today by lab culture. . Ped wants me to take her for a renal sono and a VCUG. I asked him how bad it is going ot be, and he said, i'm sure its not going to be comfortable. anyone have any advice? how does this work? does she need to pee on comand for the VCUG? keep in mind, it took 45 minutes of screaming, plus MANY prizes for her to pee in cup for original urine sample, she kept screaming she wont go in a cup.
ETA: was your child sedated for this? do they do that?

Re: have to take toddler DD for a sono and VCUG
We had to take DD for a sono a few months ago. She was just over 2.5 years old.
It was tough because she wasn't potty trained and they needed her to have a full bladder. we went back once and her bladder wasn't full enough. so she drank her juice cup and we went back. DD was ok because the tech was showing her the chicken nugget in her stomach
we didn't have to take her for the VCUG though. But it was tough getting her to pee in that bag. Poor thing held her pee for hours before she couldn't take it and finally went.

Re: have to take toddler DD for a sono and VCUG
my DS had a UTI at only a few weeks old
they just did a sonogram of his kidneys.
but the VCUG was pretty hard to watch to be honest.
the test was pretty quick, but he had to get a catheder since he is a baby, he did not like that one bit.
i know my situation is a little different, but just wanted to share my experience. it goes by quick

aw, poor baby. from what ped told me, they catherize for the VCUG. thats why I asked about sedation, i'm scared she will be completely traumatized

no experience with this specifically. KJ was cath'd when he was 2 months old for a fever and when he was 6 or so months old due to dehydration. Not fun but over quickly good luck

yea DS didn't get sedated, i am not sure if they can or not.
when we got the test done only one of us were allowed in the room. so if it will be hard for you, i would try to get DH to go in with her.
luckily the test lasts a few minutes.. i feel so bad you have to go through this..

I dont know if my ped is being overcautious by sending her, or if this is normal for kids her age. I searched, and shes a little older than most kids that have had this done, I think. Shes toilet trained aobut 6 weeks, and i'm sure its related, but i do trust my ped also.

yea i thought my ped was being overcautious too.. but we went anyway.. however, my mom told me that my little sister had this test done as well.. i know she was a toddler at the time.
just go with your gut.. if not, you can always get a second opinion.
