Have you ever left your dogs boarded for 8 nites
while you went on a trip? If not, would you?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Have you ever left your dogs boarded for 8 nites
I have- a few times. The place we boarded her at was fantastic and very loving towards its boaders. Even when we moved 50 miles away we continued to use them until we found another kennel we were comfortable with.
Thankfully, our new vet's office is also a kennel- and the workers there are wonderful. Luna really seems to have a good time there. They have playtimes scheduled for each of the dogs, group or individual. Plus 2 30 minute walks twice a day.
ETA:My places are of no help because we live in Maryland, but wanted to tell you that I've boarded that long and it was fine.

Re: Have you ever left your dogs boarded for 8 nites
We're starting doggie day care on Thursday, then 4 days a week starting next week. We plan to board him there for at least 6 nights when we go to Florida in March.
The place (Hounds Town USA) came highly recommended, we've already visited and checked them out, and I feel good about it.

Re: Have you ever left your dogs boarded for 8 nites
I will be boarding Teemu for 6 nights in February. It is at his doggie day care (so he 'knows' all the people) - Houndstown, but in order to board there your dog has to pass a temperment test and like other dogs. During the day, he will get to play with the other dogs and the people who work there, and then at night he will have his own area to sleep. This was important to me, because at alot of traditional boarding places, the dogs are placed in dog runs with concrete floors with little daily physical contact with other dogs and people. Teemu would go insane if he couldn't run and play with other dogs and people all day, plus he likes to do his business on grass!

Re: Have you ever left your dogs boarded for 8 nites
Yes, but our boarding place is a "pet resort". They have play time and get to be outside and their own little gated off areas of the room to sleep in. And then people who run it are great. It's expensive, but I know they're being well taken care of. It would hurt to have to leave them in a kennel for a week.

Yes..when we went to Hawaii. I was nervous at first and even called 1x to check on her but in the end I had to remind myself - they are professionals, this is what they do - and if there is an emergency they have contact info. It also helped that we left her there for short stays before so both she and I got used to it.

We boarded our dog here over the summer and were very happy with them. She had a great time

Re: Have you ever left your dogs boarded for 8 nites
We have and we'll be doing it again in Sept. We love where we left him bc it was very close to my parents house just in case something happened and the packages are incredible. We were able to make sure he was out and about once a day to roll around in the grass and hang out and run around. He was EXHAUSTED for about 3 days once he got home. He had a blast!

I really should practice what I am about to preach right now.. Your baby isnt going to get harmed physically in there.. Will she miss you and your routine yes.. But its not for ever.. I am sure if you had a family member to watch him you would choose that first, but I am sure you dont.. Its not the end of the world.. Do your research and pick the recommended ones.. We have to live our lives.. I know how heart wrenching this is but after the first time you will see he/she was fine and the minute they see you its all forgotten.. Just make sure you pick the best place for your concience (I dont think dogs have much of a concience and they dont hold grudges either) Try to enjoy yourself.. Good luck

EXACTLY!!!! If where you leave your furbaby offers play times and walks and activities, sign them up!!!
And remember, dogs don't know the difference between and hour and a minute. They won't realize that you've been gone for 8+ days (although the first time we left Cooper the second we got home with him he walked straight into our room and peed on our bed... he might've been a little ticked off )

same here. We did this with our family dog. The vet actually took him to his house a few times. We were definitely spoiled.

Re: Have you ever left your dogs boarded for 8 nites
We do it a lot (weekend trips, longer trips, etc.).
Like previous posters said...they enjoy it!! Especially if you go to a place with play time, etc!!
The place we take him to we can even call him - yep...that's right - they put the dog on the phone.
