have you heard of this at your daycare?
I called ds's summer camp today to ask if he could switch from the 10-2p to 9-11:30am time slot so that he could come home and nap but I was told that the 9-11:30am time is for younger kids (<3yo). I said that was ok but then the receptionist said that if a state inspector finds ds in a 3yo class, they would send him home and it would be bad....? I tried to ask further because ds would just be 3.5yo during the summer and technically that means he's still 3yo, right? I don't understand why this would be "bad".... Has anyone heard of this?

This is the regulation I found on the OCFS website regarding mixing ages: (g) Children under three years of age may not participate in mixed age groups except that for limited periods of time at the beginning and end of the child day care center's daily operation, toddlers may be in a group with preschoolers. Infants may never be placed in mixed age groups. When toddlers are cared for in mixed age groups, the staff/child ratio and maximum group size applicable to children aged 18 months to 36 months must be followed. When children three years of age or older are cared for in mixed age groups, the staff/child ratio and maximum group size applicable to the majority of the children in the group must be followed, unless the difference in age between the youngest and oldest child in the group is more than two years, in which case the staff/child ratio and maximum group size applicable to children two years older than the youngest child in the group shall apply.
So they can get written up for it, which is why it would be bad.
