Have you taken Amtrak?
How was it?
I absolutely hate Greyhound ($60 RT to Baltimore 5 hours) , but Amtrak is a little expensive ($173 RT to Baltimore 2 1/2 hours).
Worth it?

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
If it were between a bus and a train definitely go for the train. I used to take the Acela to Baltimore a lot for work and it was faster and definitely more comfortable.

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
I used to take amtrak all the time to DC when my ex FH lived in bethesda..I liked it..brought a book..they have a snack car..it was pretty nice..it looks like the prices went up since then though...I think i used to pay 98 round trip..it was comfortable though if the train is not crowded you can get a row of seats to yourself...HTH

It's been a while. I think it's worth the money. It's half the time, more comfortable, traffic is not an issue, you can walk around the train, get something to eat or drink, etc.

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
I've taken it for work - it's nice, but when I was dating a guy who lived in Washington, I couldn't justify the difference in cost between the bus and the train. It's just too expensive.

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
We took Amtrak to DC on Memorial weekend. It was crazy packed going down, but very comfortable coming back. I really enjoyed it, but I like the train. DH complained when I first booked it, but he had to agree that it was a pleasant trip.

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
I took it to Philaldelphia once and to Saratoga another time. The Philly trip was bad (4th of July weekend & train was way overbooked, so I had to stand the whole way.) The Saratoga trip was really nice & comfy. I'm not sure if it's worth the price. Sometimes it's cheaper & faster to fly, so I'd rather do that. But Amtrak is easier and less hassle.

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
I took it up to Buffalo in the winter. Mistake.
I've found Amtrack's prices to be comparable to flying.

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
i used to take it all the time between Albany and Syracuse (to visit Rich), before I had a car at school...it wasn't bad. I usually had a book, or my laptop, etc.

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
Amtrak is really relaxing to B-more but can be expensive. Depending on where you are leaving from, have you checked Southwest- they have $29 airfare pretty often and it's only a 40 minute filght.

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
I took the acela to Baltimore once. It was a comfortable ride. I would recommend.
but if you are going on a holiday weekend it might not be worth the extra $ - they get crowded and once I ended up sitting in the aisle all the way to philly

Re: Have you taken Amtrak?
Check to see how many stops Greyhound makes. If there is an express bus, where they don't make as many stops, I would save myself the cash and take the bus.
I would also check airfares, though. I think if I were going to spend the $$ it costs for the train, I would look into flying
