Having a baby- DOE

Don't really want to discuss this with my UFT rep because while she is not supposed to discuss a conversation between us, I don't fully trust she won't.

I'm trying to figure out, theoretically, when the best time to have a baby is. I would like to stay home with the baby for a year after they are born. I'm thinking the end of May is the best time that way by the time my 6/8 weeks are up I can get summer pay. Does that make sense?

My DH (also DOE) thinks that I will have to go in for a day or 2 at the end of June in order to get my summer pay. Apparently something similar happened to one of his coworkers.

Any input or experiences would be appreciated!

I had my first munchkin the first week of May and it was perfect. I went back for the last two weeks in June and then had the whole summer off

That's just my opinion of course

I'm not sure how the summer pay works if you go back in June vs if you don't. Maybe you can call the uft and speak with karla Jordan- she's the queens uft go to person for maternity questions.

I had c/s for both

For the first there were no issues i had 4 weeks after birth to cover june . I had enough sick days

For #2 it was earlier in may so i had some sick but borrowed 19 days (you can borrow up to 20) this kept me on payroll so summer pay wasnt affected.
