Having a bad day today
Today is such a bad day for me, actually the past few weeks. DS is having such a difficult time right now. He is just so overwhelmed, over stimulated, over everything at school. Recently in the morninga as we are getting ready he'll tell me his belly hurts and that he doesnt want to go to school.
Today DS was crying at school that he wanted his mommy and he just wanted to go home He had a major tantrum and they couldnt calm him down. They called me and when I got to school his teacher and the director brought him to me and he turned to his teachers crying "I am so sorry I couldnt be a good listener today" And than he turned to me and told me he wanted to come home and go to sleep.
I have noticed lately when he get really upset, worked up, tantrums or over stimulated he likes to go up to his room and lay down in his bed where it is quiet. I guess this is his way of calming his head and his body.
My heart is just breaking that I can't just "fix" him and make him happy. Make him feel safe. Make him feel better.

Poor baby. Hang in there. I'm so sorry you're having a bad day.

Re: Having a bad day today
Is there a quiet area at school that he can go to if he becomes overstimulated? I know with DS, sometimes if he's having a hard time following directions (too noisy, overstim etc) they'll ask him if he needs a minute. If he says yes, they let him go to sectioned off area in the room and sit and read a book, do a puzzle or put on headphones with some music. Something to "ground" him. When he's done, they say that he's much more compliant. (part of me thinks he's milking them for extra reading/music time but that's another issue )

Does he like headphones? Sometimes calming music can put him to ease in the classroom. For one of my students we got him an IPOD. We put on calming music with a calming picture scene. It defitnetly has helped him!
