Wait do you want to bake a cake or order a cake from a bakery? There are quite a few vendors on here who could do that!

Oops! I forgot to add that. I'd rather have someone else make it (I think I'll be cooking). We want something special, not a BJ/Costco/Waldbaum's cake (no offense to them, I love them).

Any idea on an average cost? Any suggestions?!?!?

Does she have any interests or hobbies???

My SIL (her daugher) suggested doing this- with baby pic.

No real significant interests/hobbies. The only thing I thought of was a cake shaped like Argentina w/ icing like the flag (as that is where ILs are from).

You could try bcakeny.com but it's a little bit short notice. You never know..it could happen...

(I always recommend them, it will become annoying at some point, i'm sure...)

ETA: You can get a "gift" shaped cake. I know a lot of bakers do this as one of their standard designs. They're usually about 80-100 bucks for 15-20 people.

ETA: A cupcake tier could also be a fun and unique option...you can just make them all pretty--like with different flowers and such...

I think the argentina "theme" could work, but it might be hard to get one "shaped" correctly... I'm not a baker so I don't know but I know if *I* made that it'd look like a big lump of cake.
But you could use the Argentinian colors, maybe those little flags on a toothpick as a decoration?

Or just go for something not themed but "pretty"?

I even like the idea of two small cakes using a "6" and a "0" mold, then decorated prettily... But unlike this one I'd have "Happy Birthday" on the 6, "Mom" on the 0, this is backwards and it annoys me Chat Icon

If you're near the Huntington area, I suggest Reinwald's bakery on New York Avenue (Rt. 110). It's north of the Home Depot/Kmart/Outback's shopping center.

I always suggest Butter Cooky in Floral Park and Manhasset. Their fruit salad cake is AMAZING.

Most recently re-done supermarkets have bakeries - you can get a small cake for not a lot of dough!!!Chat Icon

There is a very good bakery in Bethpage that is way cheaper then Dortonis. I haven't ordered anything too custom from them but I am sure they can do it.

Erga Bakery

Try the Cake Gallery in N bellmore, on Jerusalem Ave, it is the former baker from Reisters. Do NOT go to Taste of Home, they sold me 2 moldy cakes on 2 separate occassions.

You can do La Bonne Boulangerie in Port Jeff (same owners as Dortoni's)

I bought a cake there for my SIL shower (30 people). It was $95 but it made out of Fondant so it was a little more expensive. It was delicious...and gorgeous. I have a pic if you would like to see.

They also made my wedding cake.
