Having family over Saturday-need some help
There will be 12 of us and it's to celebrate my cousin's 50th.
I was thinking Italian..some trays, salad and bread.
Appys include crudite, shrimp cocktail, pigs in blankets and cheese and crackers. (subject to change)
Cake and cookies from Dortoni. Soda, water, some will drink but they're not big drinkers..some cheap bottles will do. My other cousin is bringing fruit.
Help me expand on this for the mains. Also if anyone has a recommendation for a restaurant or caterer that can do trays of Italian (and do it really well) I would appreciate it.
Trying not to break the bank.
I think the budget is $200 but I'm a bit flexible so give me a reality check if you think I'm out of my mind.
I'm trying to make this easy since I don't want to cook. I can make everything but I don't want to be cooking all day. They're coming over around 3-4.
eta: $200 is just for the main course food not anything else.

I actually just called La Famiglia and spoke to Sal. Prices are very reasonable. I would check them out.

I just called Ivarone and they suggested I just come down that day and buy from the prepared foods.
Their antipasto is $60! I'm sure it's heaven but that's a big part of my budget.
I will call them. We also love Marios in that strip on OCR. I just wanted it to be a bit more than just ordering chick parm, ya know?
I also wanted one stop shopping. I guess if I'm getting the cake from Dortoni's I can get bread there too.
When you order green salads from these places they tend to be really lame.
Are you friends with Sal?

imo Id skip the crazy price thatthe cake @ dortonios will cost you & use that on the food.. even though its somewhat pricy , uncle guispepes is pretty fair on their catering menu..

Re: Having family over Saturday-need some help
I would make the pasta dish.
it's so easy to make a baked ziti or something.
it will take you far longer to arrange and assemble a kick asss antipasta platter.
so if you are picking and choosing, I'd make the pasta, order the platter. and maybe the main meat/fish dish.
honestly, I'd probably do all the cooking b/c the prices these places ask are galling (and IMHO it's not nearly as good )
but whatever you are great at, I'd do that, and then order the rest.

good to know about Uncle Guiseppes. Dortoni is very reasonable for a b-day cake. Just got one for my dad for $16.
I'm not that worried about the budget as much as making sure I have all the bases covered and I don't want to make anything so I'm willing to compromise.
There are some great places to get food from, I just want it to be idiot proof.
