Having people at your house with an infant..
At the end of the month, I will be turning 30...whoa..
anyhow..DH wanted to take me out, but due to having what will be a 9 week old, i don't really want to leave. We dont have anyone to leave the baby with...parents deceased.
So..we are having our friends over, around 25- 30 people. We have a big enough house, and DS will be in my room or his room the entire time. Only out for feedings, etc...
Why am I apprehensive about this? He will have his vaccines, and we have had people over...
Have any of you done this?

Re: Having people at your house with an infant..
I started taking Yael out in public when she was 5 days old, and we had lots and lots and lots of people over when she was first born, and throughout my maternity leave.
If it really concerns you, you can always use a wrap/sling to keep baby close to you, so no one is tempted to touch...

Re: Having people at your house with an infant..
Just wanted to say that we have a huge family and a few days after the baby is born, everyone comes over and brings a dish so they can see the new baby. We pass that baby around like a hot potato AND there are lots of kids there - so far we have never had issues and we have healthy babies in my family. Don't worry - enjoy the party and everyone will love seeing the baby!

Re: Having people at your house with an infant..
DS was around people way earlier than 9 weeks, so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask
I think it's fine. He's had his shots, and he will probably sleep most of the time!
ETA: My guess is that you are apprehensive because there will be people there that haven't met the baby yet and will want to hold him, and it's cold/flu season still. I agree with Beth, when he is awake keep him in a sling close to you so you can prevent people touching him if you don't want them to.

Yes..exactly.. he has also been around people before, but not this many at one time. And I don't want to feel like a b*tch when they sk if they can hold him, and I ask if they feel sick..lol
I can just say, its my party..and I can say no if i want to..lmao

Yeah, I'd keep him in a sling or a wrap, that way people won't ask as much. And if they do, just blame it on your pediatrician - tell them your pediatrician recommended no touching until 3 months OR, you can always say baby has a cold and you don't want to infect anyone - that has worked for me in the past as well!

Re: Having people at your house with an infant..
We have the same situation as you do--no grandparents (except my Mom who is disabled...)
If you have the room for 25 people in your house, i say go for it. You can always excuse yourself with the baby and go into the bedroom to nurse or just as an excuse to get some quiet for a moment. You DC might even fall asleep for the night. I was just at a 2nd b-day party and there was a 3 month old there. She just slept in her bouncy seat. it was about 20 adults in a 2 bedroom condo--everything turned out fine.

Re: Having people at your house with an infant..
Our pedi told us it was fine to have DS around others at an early age. We just had to keep him away from school age children until he was 8 weeks old. We took him to a Christmas party when he was 1 day shy of 8 weeks. He was fine. At 9 weeks, your DC should be fine. Just put hand sanitizer all around the house and ask people to use it if they want to hold the baby.
