Having serious eating issues..
Jacob just doesn't want to eat. EVER! I had to go to the ped today because he was coughing (turns out just a mild cold) and i mentioned his eating issues. He asked me what was going on. I said he just NEVER wants to eat. I give him breakfast, eats 2 bites, and turns his head away and cries. Same thing with lunch and dinner. Few bites, then wont open at all. I try table foods, he chews it and spits it out. I try different things at all meals, different foods, different techniques, NOTHING. I know he is teething right now, but really its been an ongoing issue, just worse when he teethes.
The doc said he may have a texture issue with the foods, and to just continue the puree'd baby food, but he doesnt even want that lately. He told me not to substitute any meals with milk or he will become anemic.
He says he should only be getting 24oz of milk a day which he is. He wanted to weigh him today to see if he gained since last month at his one year checkup. He gained 2 oz. ..
I guess since he's gaining its ok, just frustrating. I see all these yummy recipes on here that your babies are eating and I think.. "wow, Jacob would NEVER eat any of that stuff." OY VEY!
Thanks for letting me vent.....

Re: Having serious eating issues..
oh i feel your pain!!! hannah is having similiar issues. it is so frustrating. you should get your ds evaluated for feeding issues. didnt he have reflux? alot of babies with reflux have feeding aversions that lead to issues with eating. hannah is on a solid strike right now. her behavior is very similiar to your ds. our ped has been adamant with her getting a feeding evaluation. if you need more info send my an fm and i can help you out. hang in there

Re: Having serious eating issues..
I know it sounds silly but there is theraphy for things like this. The child my mom babysat for had this issue and had a therapist dealing with her and this issue.Yes it was the texture but it was a real problem. I would continue to keep trying of course but look into the theraphy maybe your Ped would know more about this. How do you give a 1 year old theraphy I have no idea but it did work for this little girl.. Im sorry you are having so much trouble good luck!

Re: Having serious eating issues..
maybe have him evaluated for OT services (my FSIL is an OT that does homecare). From what I know, it should be free for you for the eval and the services

Re: Having serious eating issues..
My son is a very picky eater and around 9 months we were thinking about having him evaluated for feeding issues. My friend is a speech/feeding specialist and "informally" looked at him. My son's problem was more pickiness and still is.
At the 9 month mark he refused the spoon so I started offering finger foods. He would cry in the high chair, seal his mouth closed throw the food. It was a very depressing feeling for me. I never knew that babies can be difficult eaters. My sister and I always had a piece of bread in our hand and ate everthing.
I kept offering him finger food and once I found what he likes I stuck with it. He gets very supicious of new shaped and colors (food) and always spits it out the first time. I even try to sneak stuff into his favorites but he just spits it out. He knows!
He was struggling wiht weight gain there was no weight gain and once he even lost weight.
He knows how to chew which is a big thing. He still gags a lot on rice, any meat or anything new.
My friend did have her daughter evaluated and I looked through her case file and her videos. She videotaped her daughter so this way she could show the ped exactly what she does. I think her issue was texture and chewing. The services really helped her introduce new foods.
When Antonio is teething or sick he gets even fussier.
Be careful with the meal supplements and baby food. If he is filling uo with pedia sure he will not it. Keep intorducing new textures and once you find one thing that works stick with it as your standard meal and just offer other things with it,
Aunt Jemima pancakes cut up are a favorite along with American cheese.
Good Luck...let me know if you need more info. I rambled on forever

Re: Having serious eating issues..
Get him in daycare once or twice a week! Seeing other kids eat does wonders for a picky eater! Seriously! Noah's eating habits have changed drastically since going to daycare! He see's the other kids eating and wants to eat more!! He even eats better at home!
Good Luck!
