having two dogs
DO you think it is beneficial to a dog to have another? If so why?

Re: having two dogs
My family has always had more than one dog, actually usually 3, at one time 5. The more dogs there are the more they have tedancies to form a pack like wild dogs. When I had the 5 it was very hard to control them. I have 3 now and they are together always and are no problem at all. Having 2 dogs is even easier imo. Now that was when I lived with my parents. When I moved in with DH and we got Tonka we already had Midnite living with us (and his mother who lives downstairs had 2 little ones herself) When Middy was still home Tonka was a lot calmer didnt destroy things I guess bc she had someone to play with. Now that Mid is missing, Tonka is more destructive than she ever was and I keep her in a cage while I am at work when i didnt need to before. It was easier on me when I had the 2nd dog because it wasn't nessecary that I be there to entertain her every time she got bored so to speak. Also, beleive it or not I think I had such an easy time house breaking Tonka because I had Midnite. Tonk wanted to be every where Middy was so if I had trouble getting her to come in or go out I would just call Midnite and either send her out or call her to come in and Tonka would follow.

Re: having two dogs
I know molly is so much happier now that we have fotune. They play all day long together and sleeped wrapped around each other. I think it is more "entertaining" for her to have Fortune. She can play with him instead of waiting around for us.. and he is always ready to play since he doesn't have anythign else to do (unlike humans)!!!

Re: having two dogs
This is why I am thinking of getting a 2nd one....a small / medium dog....for Casey to have a play mate...as much as i love her! i can't give ALL of my attention to her when I get home from work. She needs a buddy

Re: having two dogs
I have 2 dogs and all though it was a lot of work in the beginning( potty training the puppy- again) it was the best thing I did. they play all the time and are just real pals, I am going to try and post my christmas picture of them last year- it was sooo hard to get them to stay still!!!! Re: having two dogs
its so fun to watch them bond!
tink loves lukin sooooo much more than she loves us. as for dharma. she is like the tolerable little sister. they like her and all, but theres no comparing their relationship.
i think a 2nd dog is def the way to go.

Loki is definitely Fascinus' dog...and maybe a little of DH.
Fascinus has been way less destructive and they play when I am out of the house. Maybe it is a false sense of security for me, but I feel better being at work so much when they have each other at home. And now with Foxy, she is just a great dog & is the "over seer" for them both.

Re: having two dogs
I actually just asked my vet about this not too long ago. Larry David definitely has aggression toward other dogs but we're pretty confident he's fear, not dominant, aggressive. Anyway, the vet recommended an obedience school (which we're starting September 19th ) and she said an obedience professional would be the best person to evaluate your dog and let you know which aggression they have. If it's fear aggression, you can get them over that and a second dog would be very beneficial. If it's dominant aggression, though, it's not likely they'll ever accept another dog.
Hope that helps! What kind of dog do you want to get?
