Heads up about a crappy vet....
I'll try to keep this as short as possible.....So I foster animals through Last Chance Animal Rescue. One of our rescue dogs was adopted recently. For every adoption the adopters sign a contract stating that if for any reason the pet cannot stay in their home they are to return them to us. Not a shelter. This family contacted us a few days after stating that they wanted to surrender him because he was nippy. He's a puppy who's been through hell as a rescue so behavior like this is not uncommon in the beginning. We suggested working with a trainer but also included the surrender forms if that's truly what they wanted to do. They were signed and returned. However once we tried to contact them to set up how to get this dog back in our possession our calls/emails were not returned. It would later be found out that this family brought him to Countryside Animal Hospital TO BE PUT DOWN! What's worse is that this vet went through with it!!! So this poor baby who was pulled from a high kill shelter, given a foster family and thought to had found his forever home is now dead. They killed a perfectly healthy dog who we were ready and willing to take right back.
Please I ask you to never ever use this vet and if you currently do switch asap! What kind of morals could these people have??
RIP sweet Ellington Image Attachment(s):

Re: Heads up about a crappy vet....
OMG!!! HOW TERRIBLE!!!! I have to look up this vet now and see where it is. What a disgrace, did the rescue confront the vet??? Can these people be SUED for breaking the contract that they were SUPPOSED to return him? Why on EARTH would a vet do this, especially to a young dog? OMG!!!! please try to sue the adopters for not following through and address the vet also, it wasn't their dog to KILL!!!!

why would the owner NOT bring him back to the rescue? I don't understand that.
As for the vet. I have no words for what they did

Legal action is definitely going to be taken.
They also tried to dump him at Save-a-pet but they wouldn't take him from them.

Where is this vet located?
Please tell your rescue to send out a Do Not adopt notification with the people's name, etc. to other rescue groups so that these people can not try adopting from other rescues.
Law suit for breaking contract.
I am assuming this vet knew that this was a rescue dog. This vet should have had the knowledge then to know that all rescues require their dogs back if things don't work out.
such a terrible outcome for this pup :(

Heads up about a crappy vet....
It is a very sad situation for the dog, and they did break a contract, from what I know an adopted animal is always owned by the adoption group, but it concerns me that the poster is outing a vet, not as an individual but while being a volunteer with a large rescue group. I'm sure people will be pissed I made that statement, but that is what went through my mind after I read the story. I would think this group might have an issue with that and to be careful.

Quite the opposite actually. Every member of our rescue group is putting this "vet" on blast. While the issue definitely began with the adopters themselves, it should have been handled much more differently than it was by the vet. Who in their right mind euthanizes a 1 year old, perfectly healthy, recently rescued dog that has no issues with attacking anyone?? They had absolutely no legitimate reason to! We want everyone to know what horrible people work there!

will the rescue group be making public statement?
I don't disagree that it was a bad choice and I don't know why he did it, but I have mixed feelings about not knowing his side, no matter what it is. I cant understand why he would put down a healthy dog, but I do know people that have had animals put down because they were moving and could not take them with, not that I agree.
This is just my thoughts

He has had plenty of chances to explain himself but chooses not to. The adopters had already filled out and returned their surrender papers and once they were received that's when the attempts began to get this dog back in LCAR's custody. Calls were never returned and eventually we found out what had happened. We were ready and willing to take him back as we do with any animal that is no longer wanted after they get adopted. It's not like they had no other option. As far as a public statement I have no idea as I am not one of the leaders of the rescue. But legal action is most definitely being sought.

Re: Heads up about a crappy vet....
How sad! My heart is also broken. This is why people have to put a lot of thought into it and think carefully before making this decision. It is not fair to an animal. What is so heartbreaking about this story is the vet. What an f'in jerk. IMO he should no longer practice. FYI-You are a wonderful person for all you do. I'm so sorry about this.

That is great advice. These people don't deserve to pet owners!

You may not completely know their reasoning/situation BUT they clearly had a very willing Rescue take the dog back so that was the other option. Maybe sometimes people dont realize they have other options than terrible inhumane choices, but in this case it seems they understood and knew they could bring the dog back to where they adopted it.

Re: Heads up about a crappy vet....
$$$ to put the dog down could have been a motive too by the vet.
I am curious to know if this vet was their regular vet (that is if they had other pets before this dog). Because if that was the case, I am sure this vet was contacted prior to these people getting this dog. The vet would have been contacted as a vet check reference. so if this vet was in fact contacted-then this vet for sure knew this dog was a rescue.

There are a lot of vets that would actually see a healthy dog and try to contact rescues or even board the dog and try to help find a home. It is actually great that there are some vets out there that will not just put a dog down bc of moving.
And the people who do put their pets down bc they are moving really shouldn't be pet owners!! They made a commitment when they got that pet--a LIFE long commitment and should reallly try hard to rehome the animal. But that is a debate for another time! :)

Heads up about a crappy vet....
What does nippy mean. If he bit someone and did damage a vet may react that way. But that cuty doesn't look ferocious.
Was it a long period of time between the family first contacting the shelter and the papers being signed? Not that it justifies the actions, just thinking maybe questioning them and trying to persuade them to give it a chance was the mistake, instead of getting in there quickly to remove the dog.
Is there a list that these people will go on so no shelter ever gives them another dog? I hope so.

Nippy meaning when he's playing he can try and and bite but in a playful puppy way not in an aggressive way. Everyone knows that puppies chew. Just like teething babies.
It was a matter of two days between the time the surrender papers were returned and when a foster family was able to be arranged for him. Two whole days. They had already had him for a few weeks so why were those two days a breaking point for them. And they knew we would take him back it was just a matter of having a foster home for him to go right into.
They most certainly are on a DNA (Do Not Adopt) list however it only applies to other rescues. They can always buy one from a store or breeder.

What does this vet have to say? I want to know, I imagine others do too. And what are the animals who brought him to death saying? When are they going to be served by a lawsuit? I really want to know.

The vet is not saying much at all. The "owners" are saying they had a trainer come in and evaluate him and it was the trainers suggestion that he be put down. However they are not giving out any info about this so called trainer. And what trainer would actually suggest that?? I have no idea about the lawsuit because that's not being openly discussed.
