Health insurance ( self insured)
our cobra will be ending soon, so looking for a new family plan. can anyone steer me in the right direction on which ones to look into?

Before our Cobra was up- we looked into ALOT of insurances- and believe it or not Blue Cross Blue Shield had good coverage and believe it or not -wasn't as much as I thought!

We have Empire, family plan, through DH's business and we pay $999 a month We have $0 hospital co pay. $7 generic prescript, $10 (maybe it's 20) name brand and $50 formulary drugs. We pay $25 copay at the doc, since we are all healthy it doesn't make sense to pay $10 a visit when we never go to the doc, and $40 for a specialist.
If you don't have your own business then you can look into a local association or into the local chamber of commerce to get into a group plan. They are generally cheaper than going it alone.

Apply for Health NY first, at least see if you qualify...
If you dont...most insurances cost about the same amount. For a family abouy $850-$1200 a month depending on how much you want your co-pays and deductibles to be.
Right now , the best companys for paying claims and putting customers ahead are thought to be Aetna and Bluecross( now Wellpoint) and Vytra.
I work at BlueCross, the fastest rising insurance company and highest customer satisfaction is Aetna...then Empire BlueCross then Vytra.

Donna, I think we once looked into the Health NY and don't qualify- is it just based on salary?

yeha its based on salary. Most dont qualify but it can only help to apply, so I wanted to mention it.
GOOD luck! AND...The prices I mentioned should go down a little since he can get a "group" coverage with his business like KP advised.
