Healthy NY insurance questions
I have a few questions about Healthy NY. Does anyone know about it? Especially in regards to pregnancy?

Re: Healthy NY insurance questions
My sister has it. Its been a huge help to her as she doesn't have insurance through work, makes VERY little money and needs an expensive medication that she takes daily.
She has had a few problems finding specialty doctors that take the plan and they do not always approve tests she needs but I Thank God she has it because I don't know what we'd do if she didn't.

Re: Healthy NY insurance questions
well to qualify for it you have to have a very low income--just a bit above the requirements for medicaid. if you are married you have to include your husband's income in the application process.
i would chk out the website to see what the max. amount of $$ you can make to qualfy for it--i think you can't make more than around $700-900 a month total...between your husband and you.
okay i was wrong on the requirements:
this is from the site:
Eligibility Criteria for Individuals
Reduced-cost health insurance is available under the Healthy NY program to certain working uninsured individuals.
In order to participate, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
You must reside in New York State. You or your spouse must either be currently employed or must have been employed within the past 12 months.
Your employer does not currently provide you with health insurance. (Please see the FAQs and the exceptions listed below to see if this rule applies to you.)
You have not had health insurance for twelve months prior to your Healthy NY application or have lost that coverage due to a specific event.
Specific events include but are not limited to the following:
loss of employment death of a family member change to a new employer change of residence discontinuation of a group health plan termination or cancellation of COBRA coverage (if you are eligible for COBRA coverage or have COBRA coverage, you can still apply for Healthy NY) termination of participation in a public health insurance program, including Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus or Medicaid legal separation, divorce or annulment loss of eligibility for group health insurance coverage aging off of a parent’s insurance policy
You must be ineligible for Medicare.
Your current gross (before taxes) household income meets the income guidelines of the program.
The Healthy NY Income Guidelines table below displays family size in column one and monthly household income in column two. The amounts are effective as of January 1, 2007. Pregnant women count as two people.
Healthy NY Income Guidelines*
Family Size Monthly Household Income 1 Up to $2,107 2 Up to $2,832 3 Up to $3,557 4 Up to $4,282 5 Up to $5,007 Each Additional Person Add $725
*When calculating family size, include the number of family members in your household whether they will be included on the Healthy NY policy or not. Students aging off of a parent’s insurance policy should not count their parents’ income.
Mid-year fluctuations in household income and employment status will not result in termination of your Healthy NY coverage. Proof of income will be required annually when an enrollee recertifies.

Right? and then on top of that which is PRE TAX, then they expect you to pay around $500/mo for the insurance. How is this helping us again????

Didn't you see that story in the news of the woman living in a house that was condemed and dying because of carbon monoxide poisining last week??
That is how they do it! They live in substandard housing with no electric or heat or hot water, they rely on food pantries, clothes are purchased at Good Will (as is furniture and household items like dishes and silverware), and every month they go without something (usually medical care).

But really, if we do need this temporarily I want to know if I am pregnant and on it do I pay as 2 people or as a family since pregnant women count as 2 for the $$$ eligibilty criteria? That is my question.
Here is a LINK to New York's website explaining the program.
