I think that's generally thought to be an old wives' tale, but if anything, I've heard it only holds true at the very end of the pregnancy. My DDs' both fluctuated depending on the visit and my doctors didn't tell me all the time anyway. But...
when I was getting prepped for my sched. c-section, I was on monitors, etc. and the triage nurse predicted a girl for me since the heartrate was above 160 the whole time (about 2 hours)...she was right!
I still think it's a coincidence though...probably
