Heart Skipping Beats
So I went to the doc on Friday for an ear ache and while I was there I was telling her about this fluttering in my chest, thought maybe it was my lungs. It happened while I was there and she checked it out and said that my heart was skipping beats. She wants me to go to a cardiologist and have a holter test. She said it was probably benign but I'm really nervous now. Has this happened to anyone else?

Re: Heart Skipping Beats
I get that and I have mitral valve prolapse.
To me it feels like when I check my pulse it kind of skips a beat and then comes back with a flutter.
Are you tall and thin? That is a characteristic of a lot of people that have MVP.

I have this too - the skipped beats are often PACs or PVCs (premature atrial (or ventricular) contractions)

Re: Heart Skipping Beats
holters are painless.. you basically just carry around a monitor for 24 hours or a week (soemtimes more then its called an event recorder)
dont worry the holter shows all (i see them all day long haha)... you shoudl be fine.. specially if its not giving you any chest pains but its def. something to get checked out further

the Holter monitor is more annoying than anything else. They may also ask you to wear an event monitor if the holter does not find anything. It basically is to exhaust all testing.

Re: Heart Skipping Beats
It happened to me last year and it was actually just stress. I could feel my heart fluttering, it was really weird and annoying and very scary. It happened a few times a day, sometimes as often as several times an hour. I went on Web MD and all those other sites and freaked myself out about all the things it could be. Every site I checked mentioned that the #1 cause would be stress, so I decided to wait it out... until after I moved 2 hours across the state and started my new job. Duh. No wonder I was stressed! The first day I was in my new house and settled in, the fluttering stopped, just like that.
Hope it's the same for you.

Me too....MVP, but gets worse w/ stress, panic attacks. I now take meds because the feeling was freaking me out so much I was pushing myself into panic attacks thinking there was something wrong w/ my heart.

Re: Heart Skipping Beats
I get this just about every day. I have had this for the past few years or so. I have been checked out quite a few times and it is just anxiety and stress. They have found nothing to be wrong. Sometimes I have them every minute for an hour or more and I am fine. =) I am sure you will be okay. I know it is not fun though....I am still trying to get over the anxiety I get when I have them. Good luck! Keep us posted!
