Heartbeat question...
Hi, we had our first sono today. We did IVF and I am 5w6d. The sonogram showed 2 sacs, 2 fetal poles, but only 1 heartbeat, so far.
He originally told me to come back on Friday, but then called me tonight and decided to make it Monday instead. There's still a chance there could be a 2nd heartbeat, right? To be honest DH and I both thought we saw one, but what do we know? My dr. said it was still early, but I guess I'm just looking for reassurance. TIA!

Re: Heartbeat question...
I had a few sonos done in the 6 week range which only showed 1 gestational sac which had no growth. Given the fact my HCG was nearly 30,000, the OB felt a HB and fetal pole should be present (they are usually seen with a HCG of 7,000-8,000).
The OB scheduled me for a D&C saying it was a non viable pregnancy. At 7 weeks I went in for the D&C, they did a sono first to confirm there wasn't growth or a heartbeat. Well there were 2 very strong, healthy heartbeats!!!

Re: Heartbeat question...
Thanks everyone! We were supposed to go tomorrow and he changed it from Friday to Monday when I talked to him last night, so we have to wait a few more days for an answer.

Re: Heartbeat question...
At a 6 week sono they told us one had a faint hearbeat and not to tell anyone it's twins yet because it could be a "vanishing" twin. I think there is still time for you.

Maybe that was your girl? I've been hearing theories about boys.vs. girls... Wonder if there's any truth to them We'll see what tomorrow brings. it is what it is but I'm already head over heels in love w/ 2 so....

That's what he saw with us. He said 2 sacs and 2 poles, but only 1 heartbeat and it took him a while to find that one. He had to zoom in REALLY close... hopefully tomorrow will have been enough time so we'll know what's what! Thanks for responding!

Re: Heartbeat question...
Definitely still a good chance...one of my twins was always a few days behind, from the very beginning. Good luck! I will be waiting for your update
