Heartburn relief?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to relieve acid reflux/heartburn????
I have reflux disease and now being pregnant, it is really flaring up.

Drink Milk and get Tums...especially the tropical fruit flavor.

I agree with the milk and Tums...I unfortunately suffer from heartburn too although I never had it prior to being pg!
Old wives tale says that means the baby will have lots of hair

Re: Heartburn relief?
I have been taking Tums, but my doc told me last week that Tums is the worst antiacid to take. Not that it hurts the baby, the relief doesn't last long, which is true, for me at least. My doc suggested I take Pepcid AC as directed.

Like the others I live off of tums and milk. But it is true that the Tums effects dont last too long. I wake up at least twice during the night to take more.

Do yourself a favor and have your dr give you a prescription for Nexium. It has literally changed my life - my acid reflux was SOOO bad and just kept getting worse the further along I got. Pepcid AC worked better than Tums but even that wasn't strong enough. I am so much happier now.

Re: Heartburn relief?
Not sure how far along you are - my dr prescribed it in the 3rd trimester. But I hadn't mentioned it to him before then...definitely check!

do you see a Gastro-- because i ahd acid relux before I was preggo and I used to take achiphex for it. But when I found out I was preggo they gave me keraphate ( I think) and it all but cured my heartburn for the first 6 months- it was so weird becuase I had depended on acid reflux meds for 5 yrs - the I got preggo took keraphte for about 3 weeks and it went away completely- it came back in the 3rd trimester but i can take a couple of tums now to releive it. only a few weeks was it really bad.

Re: Heartburn relief?
also, be careful of what you eat and when you eat it. If you are already suffereing from a bout when you go to sleep, sleep sitting up a little...this will restrict the acid from moving up your throat.
