Heat wave
Is it ok to have 5 mo DD outside today in this heat?
It's so hot, but after work I have an outdoor event to go to that I have to show up for. I don't know if there will be shade or not or an indoor area or not. I plan to dress her very lightly, use sunscreen ( which dr recommended before 6 months for DD bc she is so fair), and will try to keep her out of the sun as much as I can. Any other tips or things i should know?
If its best to lead her home, I will... But is it necessary/ recommended? Lots of people are looking forward to meeting her for the first time...
Thoughts?

I would def. apply sunscreen, dress her light and put a hat on her. Also, try to keep her in a shady/indoor area if you can! Should be okay!

I would take her if you are flexible and don't have to stay a certain amount of time - it should be cooler later in the day but, I know my boys didn't tolerate heat well at that age - they were really cranky.

I would just be prepared to play it by ear. You may need to leave her with her if she gets cranky from the heat. Even though she's only 5 months I would still have a bottle of water for her to sip from from time to time throughout the event.

Ok here are my dumb suggestions..
IF you take her.. try to be sure she gets good AIR circulation. Sitting too long can be uncomfy
I use ice packs.. not directly on her. But I would put some cheap ice backs into a zip lock back then wrap that with a thin towel (her lovies actually) it would cool the towel and some condenstation would collect. i could place a well wrapped ice back on her lap and it would provide a cool area or unwrap that same towel and drape it on her. Hubby and I would put the 'cover' on her car seat over her and put her towel on top of that making an 'air conditioner' for her.
frankly ice packs are our favorite answers. We generally carried TWO. One for the car seat (convertible) and one for the 'road'.
Push your AC Vents in the center up to the ceiling to push air off the roof and back onto the baby faster, side vents up and to the sides (same reason). Auto start with windows open and let it air out. Sun visors down on both back windows and sun shield up front on the windows. And yes, I had 'illegal' tint in NY. Not illegal here ha! We travel with AJ in the car with darker tint and no moon roof when we can.
Rub her down with water every 30min or so.. it helps to cool her down. I also got a hand fan (battery powered w/ or w/o mister) to use on her while she was little. a little water and a breeze is very nice in hot weather. Humid? meh, not bad but not as good (hence I try not to live in humid places). But Air circulation is Always good! I rubbed her with cool water even if she was asleep.
Keep YOURSELF cool. Since I always held her moved her to keep her from getting overly hot that meant *I* had to be cool. Stay under shade, hydrate and dont move too fast. Still with air circulating in the shade can really help.
Sincerely, The Texas Gal who suffered NY summers and now survived a few major heat waves in TX. All with a baby girl that rides in a black car seat! LOL
PS: I loathed NY Summers! so humid. Give me 100 degree dry any day over 80 and 100% humidity. Luckily we've had a fairly mild summer here, without only a few peeks of major heat. We are expected to get up to 86 here with 65% humidity but everything we do is AC'ed LOL!
