Heckscher State Park
DO NOT take your dogs there. We took Annie and Katie there today through the designated trail area. They were leashed at all times, stayed on the trail and did not go near the brush. Just before we left to be safe we checked for ticks. Annie had a deer tick (the small one that spreads Lyme's disease)!!!! Luckily it hadn't attached and it was just walking about. We haven't vacinated Katie for Lyme's yet this year but we will soon and hopefully my parents will for Annie. We will never take them there again though!

Re: Heckscher State Park
Yeah, Heckscher Park in East Islip is not a good place to walk the dogs in the warm weather. There are so many deer there that the ticks are rampant. We Frontline Misty and she gets all her shots, but that is one park I won't go to with her. In the winter it's great though, the ticks are dormant and the deer are all over the place.
