Heimlich / CPR for Pets

Do you know how to do it to save your pets life?

I ask because my mom didn't and she lost her dog last night because of it.

My mom was eating dinner and was cutting up some pork on her plate when a piece flew off the plate and onto the floor when it slipped from her knife/fork.

Her dachshund quickly grabbed it and it got logged in her throat. My mom tried everything she could. She attempted the Heimlich but didn't know the correct way to do it. She tried putting her fingers down the dogs throat and pull it out.
She tried holding her upside down and hitting her back.
Nothing worked and unfortunately Tetley passed away in her arms. Needless to say my mom was devastated last night. Chat Icon

So I guess this is just a PSA to look into it. It could save your pets life.

Re: Heimlich / CPR for Pets

Hugs to your mom. That is so sad.

I can do CPR for the cat, but don't know how to help her if she is choking.

Ugh that is terrible, I'm so sorry for your mom.
That had to be so traumatic.

I didn't even realize Hemlich/CPR was a thing for pets.
I guess I have to look into it.

I talked to a few people about what happened and they all had the same response. They never thought about it before.

So I'm glad I shared Chat Icon
