Helicopters circling East Meadow near NUMC?
Does anybody know what's going on? There's been at least 3 helicopters hovering over East Meadow near the hospital for at least an hour or two. I know there's a jail near that area.

Channel 4 says there was a shooting involving a police officer in a shopping center parking lot.

According to channel 11, A traffic stop was made in a shopping center parking lot and a fight broe out with the person trying to get the gun away from the officer. Supposedly, another officer arrived on the scene, shots were fired, an officer was wounded and is at the hospital and someone was killed. No specifics on the person killed. It's constantly being reported on the news programs. I hope the officers are all OK and the officer in the hospital is recovering!!!

The suspect was killed and the officer was injured.
From Newsday:
A suspect was shot and killed in an East Meadow parking lot Friday morning after struggling with a Nassau County police officer whose weapon discharged, shooting the officer in the leg, police said.
The officer is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, Nassau police Det. Lt. Kevin Smith said. A second officer, who fired upon the suspect, was being treated for trauma.
The incident happened in the East Meadow Plaza parking lot in the 1900 block of Hempstead Turnpike, across the entrance to Eisenhower Park. The incident took place about 5:30 a.m.
The lot provides parking for several stores, including Home Depot and a Duane Reade pharmacy.
Eight Nassau County police cars were parked near the entrance to Zacharys Lounge at about 6:30 a.m., along with three ambulances.
A person at the scene said police were not able to confirm the shooting.

I actually heard the gunshots. I thought they were firecrackers and then I heard sirens. I was laying on the couch. There were a lot of shots fired. OMG... I live in East Meadow near the hospital.

I went into work and my coworker said the person at the convenience store across the street heard the shots.....
I just saw the video online and the suspects car looked like it was nearby that little island by the stores, wasn't even in a parking space.

I wish they'd not have the club so close to a residential area.... sounds like there are a lot of shady people in the clubs(although may not be related to this particular incident)

I wonder what happened to that guy to make him want to, or even think he could, wrestle a gun from a police officer? And there were two officers? He was desperate
