Hello everyone, can I join and ask a Q? (mc/D&C and HCG levels)
I had a missed mc last week , had a D&C. Have a follow up appt in a few days . The dr's assistant told me they'll do a sonogram and just check me, I asked if they'll do blood work to check the HCG levels , she said no they wont be doing BT. Just wondering when your OB started doing blood work to check the HCG levels and how often did you go ? Also how long did it take for the levels to go all the way down? My pregnancy symptoms are gone and barely any spotting after D&C, it's been almost a week, but I'd like to make sure levels are going down.

Re: Hello everyone, can I join and ask a Q? (mc/D&C and HCG levels)
I just had a beta last night to check my levels after my d&c 3 fridays ago. It was 2 (which is essentailly negative). The reason why is because chromosomal testing showed another issue and they needed to make sure my beta was going down.
I think after a d&c they dont regularly check the betas cuz they know for sure it's all out. If it was a natural m/c, they do bloodwork. Someone who's more experinced might correct me if Im wrong.

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take to get the chromosomal test results back? I was told by the dr who did a D&C that they will try testing the tissue up to 4 weeks and then they give the results, but there are no guarantees that they'll get any results (positive or negative) so I'm thinking it will be at least 6 weeks or so before we hear anything at all.

It took 2.5 weeks but sometimes it takes up to four weeks to grow the cultures. The doc told me that sometimes what comes back is actually tissue from the mother and they realized they couldnt get any tissue from the baby. So I was prepared to get inconclusive results, but "luckily" i got results.

Re: Hello everyone, can I join and ask a Q? (mc/D&C and HCG levels)
I've had two m/c. After the first I had a D&C, like you they did an u/s a few days later but no blood work.
After my second m/c I didn't need a D&C so they did an u/s after and confirmed I naturally miscarried, then checked my blood weekly until hcg was at 0. They said when you don't have a D&C there can be microscopic fragments left that aren't detected by an u/s and can keep hcg levels elevated so that's why they check blood.
