Hello I am new here!
Hello
My friend told me about this board, so here I am!
DH and I have been TTC for 5 years we have just bought a lovely house in Island Park and have 2 cats and no children (yet) DH is 39 and I am still 38, tomorrow is our 5th wedding anniversary!
Our RE is at North Shore, we have tired IUI with and without drugs and have been told that we have unexplained infertility.
We are about to embark on IVF and have applied for a grant as out insurance doesn't cover it. To qualify you must have tested an FSH lower than 10 on your most recent test and of course some onths I am 7 or 8 but in August I tested at 11.6, so I have to go do another test - anyone got any ideas on how you can try to lower your FSH?
Any ideas would be welcome - thank you
Cathie

Acupuncture is supposed to work for this-not covered by insurance though. You need to find someone that specializes in fertility. I would recommend the infertility cure by Randine Lewis-it has a huge quiz that you take and can help you choose foods and supplements to help with fertility and egg quality(which is what FSH measures)

Re: Hello I am new here!
Welcome!! Are you Red's friend?
Acupuncture may help lower your FSH. Eating organic foods. No smoking or alcohol.
You may want to read The Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis - take it with a grain of salt but there is some great advice in there.
My FSH is 14.7 and I tried acupuncture and chiropractic. I wanted to eat organic and quit drinking but let's just say - I don't have much will power...

Re: Hello I am new here!
OMG....You sound sooo much like me!
My RE is NorthShore as well and I just diid IVF with them in Sept. Through the NYS grant.
Also my highest FSH was 11.6 and almost all of mine were over 10 previously.
So as we waited for the grant and the day 3 fsh I freaked out.
I did the wheatgrass shots. 2 in the morning , every morning ... I bought the frozen kind from Wild By Nature and I did this for about 10-14 days before my day 3 testing.
My FSH was 8.3!!!! It had never ever been that low and obviously I got the grant.
I will swear now by that wheatgrass! !
Good luck!! I will pray for you.
When do you go for day 3 testing?

Hi Donna
Well I am day 21 today and usually go between 28-29 days so figure I have got about 11 days - where do I get the wheat grass from?
How did the grant work did you have to pay first and then they paid you back?

I got it at Wild By Nature store which is in Huntington. I dont know where else they sell it frozen like that. It was like $15 for a box and I know I bought two. Do you live near Huntington?
The grant was on a sliding scale based on our income. We had to submit all the tax forms etc for last year and based on our income, we had to pay 35% of the total cost. For us that came out to like $7200. We had to pay it upfront before the start of the medications for the IVF cycle. It covered everything, there was no copays, all the meds were covered etc,

Re: Hello I am new here!
No I live in Island Park, I used to go to Acupunctre in Huntington - may be they sell it in Vitamin shoppe?
My Insurance covers the drugs but not procedures - we have already submitted tax forms etc. and Dr. Scholl said that the only thing holding us back was my FSH level.
Maybe I'll take a drive up to Huntington and visit acupuncturist whilst I am up there.

Re: Hello I am new here!
If your insurance covers the drugs then you will pay a little less. I think the drugs cost was $1300? And that was for any combo of any drugs, the have a rate with the pharmacy. So you can expect to pay that much less for sure.
Wild by Nature has a website I think if you need directions.
Good luck to you!!!!!!
Stay on top of them with the grant. I had to keep calling because they never gave me a final amount I owed until two days before it was due and that annoyed me. The grant coordinator is really busy so ask any questions ahead of time.
