HELP ! ! My cat is CRAZY ! !
OMG, DH and I seriously don't know what to do with our cat anymore. He's about 6 months old and absolutely CRAZY ! ! He is up on all the counters, the TOPS of our cabinets, tables, dressers & our armoire as well. We have tried squirting him with water, pennies in a can, we take him off of things the second we see him on there....he just jumps right back up.
The other thing is he runs and attacks my legs, and my DD's legs when we are walking through the apartment!!
It's not like the cat is starved for attention. We play with him, we have PLENTY of toys for him, when he is "lovey dovey" as I call it we pet him, hold him and hug him....but the other behaviors have to stop. It's really beginning to be to much.
Oh, and the other thing (sorry for being so long) because he likes to bite and play even if we don't, we close our bedroom door at night. I play with him on and off until I go to bed about midnight yet at 430 in the morning we are woken up to him crying and banging his head into the door   I get up, go in the other room with him, play for a bit and go back to bed.
I know he's just a kitten, but both DH and I have had cats before (me my whole life, DH for 9-10 years) and none of them have EVER acted like this!! I don't know what to do anymore...
Please help !

it could be just a phase because he is a kitten... if he fixed sometime when they are fixed they calm down

that's the thing....he's gotten CRAIZER since he's was fixed on 8/17 ! !
And this phase has been since about the beginning of July !
DH is seriously pizzed about it. the cat will jump on the kitchen counter....we take him off, he goes back on, we take him off, he jumps back on....etc about 100000000 times ! DH get's so frustrated, he tells me to deal with it !!

Tostito is like that!
We sprayed him with a water bottle. It helped but he is still bitey
he is now 2 1/2 yrs old

He will grow out of it. I've had crazy cats and after they turn a year old they grow out of it.

I don't know if this will help or not but friends of mine but scotch tape with the sticky side out in the places their cats jumped on. They don't like the sticky feeling so they stopped jumping there.

I remember my cat being somewhat like this and she eventually grew out of it by 1 year. But the scotch tape thing will work. They hate sticky stuff. Another thing would be to try and teach the command of "down" with his name maybe that will click for him.
If those don't work maybe try calling the vet to see if he suggests anything. Good luck and don't worry it gets better.

I don't remember what the book said to correct the problem, but I believe this book spoke about behaviors such as cats attacking you as you walk by. HTH

Both Izzy and Bella are insane like that.
Kittens are on crack. I don't remember Max and KC being like this either.
Sorry, no advice. They will calm down a bit. They are just very young.

By getting up and playing with the cat, you are teaching the cat that, if he cries long enough, he'll eventually get attention. As much as it stinks, you have to ignore him totally when he does this... The sooner you start ignoring it, the sooner he'll get the hint and stop. The longer you keep getting up to play with him, the longer it will take to break him of this habit.

Thanks for all the responses girls! SO this weekend was full of trials and some seem to be working.....
We have tried to see how it goes with letting him into the bedroom at night. Friday night was okay, he woke us up 2 times. Saturday we were up once, and last night he made it from 12:30 to 7:00 !! I was soooo happy!! So apparently he wanted to be in the room...if he keeps it up I will keep letting him in.
I also walked around the house with a spray bottle this weekend and when he attacked my legs, gave him a little squirt (it was on 1/2 mist 1/2 squirt) He's still doing it, but when he gets wet he runs away and stops.
The counters though that's another story. I might try the scotch tape idea and see if that works. I am also going to check the library and see if they have the book that one of you suggested.....

There is a show on Animal Planet called House Cat House Call and they suggested putting baking sheets on the counter so when the cat jumps up there it will make a lot of noise. It won't look good, but its temporary, and seemed to work for the people on the show.
They also say that you need to stimulate your cat - that a lot of crazy behavior comes out of boredom - give the cat toys, play with the cat (appropriately - don't let him grab and scratch/bite your hands and feet), and give him a kitty condo - something he can climb, scratch, and play on. Also kitty grass would give him something to do.

This was our cat...he is a little over a year old now...and a sooo much better.
Running across the entire apartment at 3:00 am like its 3:00 in the afternoon, jumping on the counters while I was trying to cook, unraveling and clawing away at the toliet paper...
He still gets a little nuttzy here and there...but its tolerable...he has calmed down alot - but you have to remember he's a baby - he's got lots of energy and its just their nature to be like that...hang in there...

Is your cat orange by any chance?
I hate to say it, but my cat is 8 years old,. and still not that much better---he is better b/c he sleeps more, but he still has a screw loose!
My vet advised that cats do not like the feel of tin foil, crumple it a little bit & put it on the landings...but that was a nightmare for us b/c we did not want tin foil all over the house
and then my vet told me something they accidently discovered was that cats HATE eucalyptus oil!
Buy some eucalyptus oil and put a bit on a paper towel & leave it where they jump
This is the ONLY thing that worked for us! It lasted about a day with the few drops, but since a little goes a long way, just redo it the next day...
Our cat jumped up, smelled the eucalyptus smell and jumped righ back down!

Nope - he's black with a bit of white on his belly
As for the foil...he apparently likes it....We have tried to put it on things, but he plays with it, and chews it! CRAZY!!
I have to try the eucalyptus oil...Thanks for the tip.
The past few nights have been good, I am getting more sleep! 
Now it's just the counters and the table I have to get him off of. Especially when I am cooking!!
