Help - rug for guest bedroom size/color?
The ceiling will be white, the walls will be gray and my problem is the size and color for a rug under our full sized bed for the guest bedroom/my office.
We plan on getting dark wood maybe even black for the furniture, a glass desk for me with steel accents. Floor is wood and we are unsure of the finish since we need to bring in the floor people.I will put black roman shades up on the windows i think.
So what size do you recommend? 5' x 8' rug? 8' x 10' rug? or a runner of 2'3" x 8"
What color? Now I love the gradient fade carpet but its very expensive the plain red carpet is cheap. I can't seem to find anything to work with this painting so any help would be so appreciated. Which would you pick?
The painting & bedding:

I love the red one! Is it a shag? As for size, how big is the room? and do you want the carpet under the desk as well as the bed or just underneath the bed with some carpet around the sides?
I have a queen bed and wood floors in my bedroom and ive been looking for a 8X10 so that way its under the bed but sticks out around the sides.

I think you have to go with a solid rug without patterns with that bedding. as for color, the red is on the brighter side for me, but if you like it go for it! it works with those colors

For a Full size bed, you can probably buy a 5x8. I had a 8x10 with my Queen. As for the rug, I would do something solid. You could even do a gray steel color rug to play off of the desk. Than you can have the pop of color be that beautiful painting. You don't want to take away from the bedding and the painting with a very bright rug. Just my opinion.

I don't know about the size, but for the rug I might look for a deep purple/eggplant color...it would be a color but more of an accent--it looks like the painting has a touch of that color at the center of the flowers, and I think it would allow the painting to stand out but really complement everything. the red seems a little bright and too matchy for me.

How big is the room? Or do you just want the rug to fit underneath the bed? My brother has a 5x8 underneath his queen size bed and it fits and you can barely see it. If you want to see some of it I would go larger.
I like the red. But, I also like light blue or deep purple with the colors you already selected. I know you want to hang thae painting, what colors are in the inside of the flower? I can't really see.
So happy to see you are finally ready to decorate!

i love the fade one too, but as Jen said, i think you should go with a gray one. that picture is so beautiful that you want it to pop.
i would go for a smaller rug and cati-corner it like people do these days. that way, it doesn't matter if it is too small, just change the angle... then you can get a smaller rug, a little more on the expensive side.
also, keep in mind that if you go to a carpet store, you can ask them to sew the ends of a scrap that they have. you can get real good deals that way.

Re: Help - rug for guest bedroom size/color?
I completely agree with the solid color with all my pattern and picture it would be too much, i do love that fade rug and may have to buy it for somewhere else.
I may do the eggplant - didn't even think of it! Duh that color is the compliment of all those colors in the painting. I may just get a carpet with the edges sewn so I can get the size I really wanted (love that & thank you). Oh then I can do purple window treatments which i like better!
As far the size i realize i may put the queen in there after all (dh wants a king for us so i may put our old mattress in there after a year) so I am going with a larger rug.
THANK YOU ALL!!!
Oh and the red was not a shag which I wanted a little but of a texture or shag to it (not huge shag) to give texture to the room so I can match it with throw pillows.
