HELP - To buy or not to buy - Ipod
My sister and BIL are considering buying my nephew an Ipod Nano for Christmas from Santa and is interested to see your ladies' opinions.
Here are the pros and cons to buying the Ipod:
PROS: 1. First thing on his Christmas list 2. Loves music 3. Potentially last year believing in Santa
CONS: 1. He's only 7 2. He is forgetful and often misplaces his things 3. High cost ($150) - if this was a $40 item there would be no poll.

in my opinion, a nano for a 7 year old is too much. he could lose it. i would get him an ipod shuffle which is 1/2 the price

I wouldn't spend $150 on one item for a 7 years old - particularly if he's forgetful.

Personally, I think a 7 year old is too young for such an expensive portable item - esp since you said he misplaces things a lot! He shouldn't be lying around listening to music at this age anyway - he should be playing outside! Seriously - I think the misplacing thing says it all.

I too voted yes. This is one way to teach him the importance of being responsible.

I would spend $40 and get him an MP3 player.

IMO too expensive a gift for a 7 year old. Especially one who often misplaces things.

i don't think a 7 year old needs a nano. he can get a much cheaper mp3 player that holds the same amount of music, AND learn not to need 'labels' early

they still make those- they're really tiny though, so it can Definitely get lost even easier.
they make mp3 players for even less than $70 now... much less.

they have a new version out, but I'm not sure what the cost is... but that's right, you can totally get an MP3 player that's not an Ipod for a very reasonable price

Re: HELP - To buy or not to buy - Ipod
Thanks girls!! I think they are leaning towards no after all of the responses!!
I told them to revisit the Ipod for his bday in September - more than likely his interest will be someplace else!!

Agreed!! I'm surprised a 7yr old would even want one!

I agree with some of the other posters. How about a less expensive MP3 player? And maybe he can be "upgraded" if he holds on to this one for a certain amount of time.

That's not really the issue. He's outside more than any other kid I know. He LOVES sports and would pick playing catch with his dad over any other thing in the world - but he just happens to like music.
In any case, I don't think they are going to get it.

No way! too young, too forgetful, too much money.
