HELP - Vitamin drops? - 6 month old

Hi there....

DD had her 6 month check up yesterday and her ped gave her an Rx for vitamins w/ flouride...

I know there is quite some concern with some mom's saying no to this. Can some people explain this to me?

I live in Nassau Cty/ Garden City and have no clue if we have flouride in the water.

TIA!!

my dentist SWEARS by these vitamins and says that it is the best thing to give kids b/c it really helps strengthen their teeth & it will prevent cavities and weak enamel down the road.

Rylan is going to be 9 months in 2 weeks and his ped never even brought up vitamins. I never though about it until I saw a friend give her daughter vitamins. I wonder why he never gave me a script for them...I thought all kids were supposed to take them.

My DS is taking vitamins with Flouride and Iron. The town we live in (in NJ) does not have flouride in the water, and apparently they need it for the development of their teeth.

As for the iron, DS tested anemic at his 12 month bloodwork, so the ped added that to his vitamins to get his iron up. He takes them every day... actually likes them!

At DD 6 month check up we got a prescription for drop vitamins. I have been mixing them in with her breakfast ever since.

Nope, I don't. I don't want the fluroide in her system. There are conflicting reports about it, but I just can't bring myself to give them.

My ped. starts PolyViSol at birth and moves to the prescription ones at 6 months...we followed the recommendation of him since the AAP recommends vitamin D for breast fed infants...I know its controversial, but I feel comfortable with my doctor's recommendations.

There is no flouride in the water in Garden City area. My daughter takes those drops as well.

Same here. I trust my pediatrician, so Landon takes the vitamins every morning.
