HELP!

Ok DS turned 3 in April and I pushed for him to get approved for services for the fall. I went and picked a place for Sept and did all the paperwork but I plan on calling and saying I dont want services for him come sept. My question is do you know if i call now and tell them that do services stop right now or will they still be extended until 8/31. I want him to get a few more weeks and thats it. He will be going to reg nursery in the fall and I want to see how he does on his own. TIA

Re: HELP!

Why do you no longer want the services?

Re: HELP!

Your plan should run until the end of the summer and then a new plan is generated by your current school district when they go to school. I would definitely double check with your service coordinator though.

I don't know that I would take anything away though. I would at least keep it in the beginning because you won't know how he is going to transition to a 5-day program. He might need the help. It's very hard to get services back, but you could change his plan and take him out of it after he makes the transition. JMO

Re: HELP!

It sounds like you have your mind made up, but just want to let you know, you can ALWAYS take services away or refuse them, but it's MUCH harder to get back a service you've refused if it turns out your child does in fact need it at a later date. Not impossible, but just harder. His IEP should follow him from one school to the next so that the educators have all the information they need to help your son succeed to his full potential. Re: HELP!

We are moving to diferent county so he has to be evaluated anyway out there. He is going to a catholic school in the fall and will go to public in LI so i am seeing how he does in nursery first. When i say that he has improved greatly , its an understatement. My dad visits once a year form GA and he said its like a diferent kid.
