help

i really dont post that much on here...just kinda hang around and read, but i really need help with a few things. hopefully you guys can help me. ever since high school i have had an irregular period. im not exactly sure when its supposed to come and hpw long it usually is because af seems to do whatever she wants. usually i will get af for about 7 days and she wont show again for about 3 months. my and fh are thinking about ttc. the thing is i dont know when to try b/c of af not being very coperative with me. could this also pose a problem with ttc. will it take longer to try??? when i first went to the gyno she said there really wasnt anything to worry about af comng the way she does. i also dont know how to chart and everything. im a total mess and need some help. sorry for the vent.

Re: help

Welcome!

AF has never been my issue but you want to search for posts by Felicia, Lisa and nychic, I know they have been dealing with long absences of AF.

I think there is medicine to bring AF on so it can be regulated.

as for charting that could be an issue for you since you really don't know when you're ovulating.

I would recommend you to get the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" it was very helpful and I learned alot.

Re: help

If you do get AF regularly, just that you have long cycles, you can still get pg. Flee just experienced that, she has 50 day cycles and she managed to get a BFP without even knowing it.
That being said, and having the same problem, I would say talk to your gyno at your next appointment. Depending on your age, she will probably have you try naturally for a while, then put you on Provera to bring on AF and Clomid to help you ovulate. But the most important thing is to talk to your Dr. and see what course of action she/he will want to take.

Good luck and lots of Baby Dust to you!

Re: help

I used to be regular back in the day, but after coming off BCPs, my cycles became wacked.

I never went more than 62 days but I wasn't ovulating. I started clomid this cycle to "jumpstart " my system and hopefully get me O-ing. (most cycles longer then 35-40 days are generally anovulatory)

I would suggest starting to chart (simply taking your basal body temp at the same time each day - you can use fertility friend.com to enter the data) and/or using ovulation predictor kits to determine if you're ovulating (Answer has new OPKs that come with 20 tests for longer cycles)

If you are O-ing, then there's really no problem with TTC. You'll just have less "chances" (once every 3 months vs, once a month). If you're not, you'll want to talk to your DR and try to determine why not.

It may be in your best interest to determine why you're cycles are so long anyway...but since thats "normal" for you, it may not be anything to worry about.

Definitely read TCOYF, like Donna suggested...

Re: help

I have been having problems with my cycles for a long time now. When I was a teenager, it started out that I would go every 2-3 months without a period which didnt worry me too much. As I got older, it got much worse. I never knew why I was like this but before I read up on everything, I was really clueless. My gyno put me on the bc pill to help regulate me but all she did really was set me back another year with ttc because it did absolutely nothing for me. I did get my period while on it but it basically meant nothing for my body. I stopped taking it in January of 2005 and havent gotten a period since then.

This obviously made it virtually impossible for us to start ttc although we tried anyway but basically for no reason. I was not ovulating at all and just this past week I had my first appt with an RE. She seems to think I may have pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and also an insulin problem which goes hand in hand. They dont always give clomid first...in my case, my re wants me to try metformin to help my insulin resistance if thats what my bloodwork shows. She thinks that after I take the provera (to bring on my period) and start the met, that my body will regulate itself. I also have to lose some weight to get in better condition to carry a baby which makes sense.

There are many reasons for missing cycles...stress, weight gain or loss, too much or too little exercise...and then more serious things. You will have to talk to your doctor about it. But I urge you..please please be your own advocate for your own health! Sometimes doctors lose you in the shuffle and you dont want to waste time if you want to start ttc...I wasted a lot of time listening to doctors who I truly knew were wrong..I am extremely happy now with my re..if you have any other questions..please fm me..I will be happy to help! Good luck! Chat Icon

ETA: I dont mean to scare you in any way..I just wanted to share my story with you because I know when I am going through it, as much feedback as possible is extremely helpful! I hope I didnt scare you!
