Help a First Time Ipod user please!

So I won an Ipod Nano 8G as a door price at Dh's holiday Party.
I have a bunch of music on Itunes that we have collected over the years and still nothing on my Ipod.

The reason I am slow to put them on my ipod is I don't understand if I should make playlists first then transfer it or do I just transfer everything and then do I make the playlists.

I currently don't have any playlists made and well I'm trying to purge through some of the songs I have because alot of it Dh gained during his last deployment and I don't like some of it.

So please tell me how you have yours set up?
Best ways to use it?

Also Dh has an MP3 (not ipod) can he use my itunes?

I feel so dumb :(

It all depends on how you want to listen to your music. If you want playlists you have to make them before you put them on the iPod. Once you have the lists made up, you can just plug your iPod into your computer and drag the songs into the iPod icon on the left hand side. I personally only have one playlist filled with x-mas music.

If you want playlists you have to created those in itunes ahead of time. But on your ipod you can also play songs by album and artist.

Thanks ladies,

Hmm, that interesting that you ladies don't really use them. Maybe I'm better off not using them myself or putting most of it on but having a small select few of playlists for running or working out.

Thanks again, I feel so stupid asking Ipod questions since I know it's kind of late to get my first one!

My only playlist is my top rated (which I think was created by itunes alreadyChat Icon Drives my boss nutz because to him playlists are necessary. He doesnt like following up Pink with Neil DiamondChat Icon To me its all the same. I say load it all on the ipod and then create play lists at your liesure. everytime you synch, your ipod will update.

I have a few PL, Like workout, running, girls night out, chillin music, etc. My moods fluctuate, so does the music that goes with it. So for me it was easy to just peruse thru and mix n match. DH and DD also have their own playlists on my Itunes.

If there are songs on your iTunes of your DH's that you don't like, I would set my iPOD to manual - when you first plug it in, the iPOD screen will come up - scroll down and there will be a box you can check that says manually manage music.
Once you do that, you will have to drag the specific music you want from the iTunes to your iPOD icon, but you can pick and choose and only take the songs you want.

Re: Help a First Time Ipod user please!

there are different ways of syncing..you can sync all your music or sync only selected playlist that you create in itunes... Its a matter of preference.
if you just add songs, songs are separated by album, artist if they are tagged correctly..
