HELP! Abby has bad

diarrhea Chat Icon

Let me explain though. It started about 4 days ago. It was bad one day, then almost gone the next, then bad again, then ok again.

And the WEIRDEST part is its ONLY at night.

Meaning I came home today and yesterday and nothing, but at night when shes in her crate to sleep she wakes up about every 1 -3 hours to go and is going about 4 times a night.

She did get into the cat food the other day so I thought cause it had oil in it, it wa t hat , but for 4 days? Shouldnt she be better by now?

I looked online for info and it says try pepto bismol and I got the amount to give her for her weight.

BUT..should I take her to the vet?

Im trying not to rush to the vet for everything right now and we are in the process of changing vets so I dont have one I can "just call " and ask.

Shes not dehydrated, shes drinking water, playing, running around.

Is it safe to wait it out another day or so?

THanks

Sorry so long

Re: HELP! Abby has bad

I know you don't want to, but I would call the vet. My cat has chronic stomach problems and even when she was "herself" with diarrhea she was still dehydrated.

I'm also not a fan of self-medicating...

I always go by what I would do for me - if Ihad diarrhea for 4 days, I'd call the Dr.

Did you change her food recently? Does she go outside - perhaps she ate something out there?

Re: HELP! Abby has bad

Feed her rice and maybe chicken (boiled) instead of dog food for a day or two and see if she is better...

Re: HELP! Abby has bad

You should try some rice and boiled chicken for a day or so and see if that helps. Sometimes when my dog gets into the cat food at my MIL's house she has the same problem. She probably digests her food mostly at night and that is what is causing the upset stomach.

Canned Pumpkin!

Get to the store and buy some, and I promise you it will go away.

I heard this as well somewhere.
Im just afriad of NOT taking her to the vet.

I made an appointment for tommorow anyway, but I hate to say I would rather not. We have spent a few thousand dollars taking her in the 3 months we have had her, for no real reason...LOL

I dont want to overreact, but I dont want to under react either.

pumpkin has "psyllium" in it...its what Metamucil for humans is...so It can be used for both ...Its fiber to help them go, but also fiber to bind them up.

That's exactly what I was going to write.

The vet will tell you the same thing. Watch her for the next day or so after that and then if it still happens bring her to the vet. Is she drinking her water?

Anytime my dogs have had this problem, my Vet has told me

1. Not to feed the dog for 24 hours
2. to feed them plain white rice (not instant)

This always seemed to work!
I hope she feels betterChat Icon
