Pour some water into 2 newborn diapers and freeze them. Put them on your breasts. It will help with the discomfort. The great thing is you just put them back in the freezer and refreeze to use again.

Take a hot shower or pump just a little to relieve the pressure.

The hot showers def help if you can find the time

In that case, you may have to try other things to stop your milk production. Maybe do a search on-line

Re: help! breast engorged! ouch!!!!

I posted almost the exact same post a few weeks ago, when I first had DS. I had the exact same problem and none of the other remedies worked (lotions, warm towels, cabbage leaves, ice packs, etc). However, as soon as I pumped the milk out, the engorgement pain was gone! I'd suggest either renting a pump ASAP or buying one if you don't already have one. Chat Icon

I didn't know how I'd like pumping so I had rented one from the hospital for like $50. I bought one immediately because I felt so wonderful after the first pump. Just last night, I had some milk backed up and my boobs started hurting and then I pumped the milk out and the pain was gone once again.

Are you sure you are using the pump correctly?

If you are engorged, I think that means your milk is backed up. Sometimes the ducts get clogged and you have to massage the ducts (almost like unclogging a pipe).

The women at the hospital who showed me how to use the pump also showed me/DH how to massage the milk out. I couldn't do it myself because it was too painful but I had DH squeeze my hard parts of my breasts and the milk would squirt out of my boobs. I was in tears but it worked.

I promise the pain gets better after a few weeks. I wondered how I would survive but just a few weeks later, breastfeeding no longer hurts at all. Hang in there. Chat Icon

When you take a shower...don't let the water hit you directly and wear the sports bra in the shower.

They will go down in about 24 hours...hang in there!

I agree. Don't take the bra off.

I made the mistake of walking around Amazon style. I was in so much pain that I just walked around the house topless for several days. I felt a lot better when I wore a bra with gel soothies. Then you won't have friction irritating your nipples further.

If you're not going to BF, I wouldn't pump. By pumping, you're telling your body to produce more milk.

I know it sounds crazy but cabbage leaves relieve engorgement. That and ice packs worked wonders for me. Put some cabbage leaves in fridge (they feel good cold) You have to replace them every hour or so but it really helps!
