What should I put in the baby's nursery?
Can't decide?

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
I have carpet now... but we just went to a flooring store for laminate flooring.
I think it's more "hygienic". I hate carpet.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
I really don't like carpet either. Just wasn't sure what would be cheaper, since we are on a tight budget now.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
Count about $2-$6 per sq ft. for material depending on the brand and quality. For labor I was quoted $3 per sq ft. approx.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
Carpet is definately cheaper. We were going to get laminate, but decided to go with a high pile carpet. We have laminate in our living room and it gets a little chillier than the rest of the house even with a rug down. Since DS's room is in the middle of the house, we didn't want it to get too cold.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
This is so confusing. My DH is really no help. He's always saying what ever you want we will do.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
I thought the laminate flooring would add value to the house too vs. carpet.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
I am big on carpeting in the bedrooms. I like it because it will be comfy for the baby to crawl around on and play with his toys eventually.
It really is a personal preference though. I know many people who prefer flooring instead.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
I wanted carpeting but we just had the floors done when we moved in with laminate. SO we opted for an area rug.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
While I love carpeting - honestly if you think the baby could have allergies a hardwood floor is easier to clean for dust. You could put out a throw rug which is easy to clean or replace.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
We chose to put laminate flooring down in the nursery. My DH is allergic to almost everything, including dust, so we decided it was the safer bet just in case the baby has allergies as well. I also think it will be easier to keep clean. We will put a small area run in front of the crib, though.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
Baby's room is above the den so I put in carpeting even tho we have hardwood. I really don't want to hear jacks on the floor when kid is older.
And I think it keeps them warmer when playing on the floor. Not as slippery either.

That's also one of our problems. Allergies!

I don't blame you. The nurserrie is downstairs. I don't want wood upstairs because of the noise.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
we both have allergies, but we both dislike wood in the bedrooms.
We have laminate wood on the whole 1st floor, tile in the kitchen and carpet upstairs.
DD learned to crawl upstairs since she had more grip on the rug and it was softer, she's finally getting the hang of crawling on the wood, but she's def better upstairs.
Also carpet is a little more cushy, DD's takes some tumbles on my 1st floor and it's an automatic black and blue.

I think it's more "hygienic". I hate carpet. Ditto. And supposedly some of the chemicals used in carpeting can affect allergies during the crawling stage.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
I'd go with laminate. Not to be gross, but we have carpeting in the bedrooms now, and it's been really tough to get the spoiled milk smell out of it after both kids were hit with that stomach virus that went around.

Re: HELP Carpet or laminated wood flooring
We are in the middle of a construction project and we haven't decided on flooring, but I wanted to get hardwood put down.
Am I kidding myself into thinking it won't be that expensive?
