Help diagnose Emma please
She has had the cold that everyone has that your totally snotty then cough for like ever. I took her to the ped today to make sure she was ok, she was. Then I took her to my moms where she stayed while I went to the outlets I go pick her up tonight and she has this rash on her one cheek and under her mouth. She didn't eat anything or drink anything out of the ordinary tonight and she says it doesn't hurt or itch. She wouldnt evenknow it was there if I didnt see it.
Opinions??

Re: Help diagnose Emma please
Has she been licking her lips? I know that some kids have a habit of that and in this weather can dry it out. I would try putting some A&D oniment on it and see what happens in the morning.

Re: Help diagnose Emma please
yup it looks like it was wet either from spit or something she ate or drank and it just gave her a chapped face. all of my girls used to get it. I tried putting a&d ointment on it until it got better and then if i was going to be out in the cold for a while i would put vasaline (or the clear A&D) on it. HTH

Re: Help diagnose Emma please
my guess is chapped also from breathing thru her mouth because of her cold and drooling from that.

Re: Help diagnose Emma please
I think it's just chapped skin... try putting some aquaphor on it overnight and see what happens. Was she outside? Mallory gets red on her face when it's really cold out and she always is red around her mouth from licking her lips

Re: Help diagnose Emma please
Looks like a viral infection. So popular this time of year, unfortunately. I hope she feels better!

I agree with the wet/chapped part. If she drools in her sleep, it can get on her cheeks. I've seen Joseph wake up with somethng similar. Hope we're all right!

Re: Help diagnose Emma please
My friend just e-mailed me saying that her daughter has the same thing and she woke up with pink eye. Does she go to daycare? If yes, your daughter is the third kid I know that has gotten this rash. If it's the same rash (which could be totally unrelated to the cold) then you may need to bring her back and the ped will give her a topical cream. It's bacterial or viral and has to pass really but the cream could keep it from spreading or from bein contagious. It's common so I wouldn't freak out. She doesn't look uncomfortable - very pretty. I think it's a simple bacterial rash and she may need an antibiotic cream.
