Help! Dormer info!
DH and I are looking to add onto our house. We have two bedrooms up and off the bigger one a big walk in attic. We are thinking of dormering that whole side and hope to create 3 rooms plus adding an attic. Does anyone have any idea what something like that might cost? We already have a bathroom upstairs, so that should help with keeping the cost low.
If anyone has had a positive experience with a builder, we would appreciate any suggestion on someone who could do this for us! TIA!!

Re: Help! Dormer info!
We had a half dormer done recently and I would highly recommend our contractor. You didn't mention where you are, but he's in western Suffolk. FM me if you want some more info.
Here are a few pics.

Re: Help! Dormer info!
Any ideas about costs? That is really our main issue - move or dormer.
Thanks!

Re: Help! Dormer info!
I'm guessing anywhere from $30,000 - $130,000 or more. It depends on the size, quality of materials and how finished you want it. You could go bare bones and do a shell only, finish it yourself, or go very high end with expensive tile work and fixtures in the bathroom, fancy built in closet, crown moldings, etc.
Depends on the amount of square footage you're adding too. In addition to that, you may find you need to do additional structural support work to the house to bring it up to code for the type of work you're doing. Because we moved the wall out 6 feet we had to add support to the beam in the basement, and we found out the finished basement that the previous homeowner did was done without permits. The work we had to do down there added about another $3500 to the cost of our renovations.
The deal we worked out was for the work and basic materials, and we purchased all the tiles and fixtures for the bathroom separately so we could get exactly what we wanted and worry about having to negotiate upgrades, etc.
If you do a search on this forum under Dormers you'll find some price info that others have posted - this isn't the first time this question has come up, but your question is really vague - it's like saying I want to buy a car - how much will it cost. A new Rolls Royce costs a lot more than a new Ford.
A few things to consider though are how much you like your location and neighbors, and will the renovations put you at the top end of the houses in your neighborhood. You don't want to be the most expensive home in the neighborhood, and if your current location and neighbors are great you may want to stay with what you've got and improve the house instead of rolling the dice and finding out your new neighbors are horrible.

Thanks for your advice. We actually are weighing the pros and cons on where we live. My DH grew up in this town, my in-laws live here, and help so much with DD and we are right near the water in a house we love, which is great. On the other hand, we have a 40 minute commute to work, which isn't bad, but I know we could move closer which would mean more quality time together.
As far as fixing up the house, we are not adding a bathroom upstairs b/c we have one already, so I know that will lower the cost. Plus, it will def. not be the biggest/highest end house in the neighborhood- it will be just enough so that we would never move.
Lots to think about!! Thanks again!
