Help for Dad...
Hi,
I thought this would be a good place to look for some advice/info. My mom passed away a few months ago, and I'm having a most disgusting time dealing with it. But I'm most worried about my dad right now. He is just so lonely and lost, and although we spend a great deal of time together, I want him to spend time with and meet people who are in similar circumstances. He agrees, but we just can't seem to find any social groups for him. Is anyone's father involved in anything?
Thank you for any replies. The whole world just seems so difficult and sad right now.

Re: Help for Dad...
Im so sorry for your loss. My dad joined a support group throught cancer care (i think). i think it helped. My dad was really depressed and lonely. he recently started dating. it's weird but im happy that he's not sitting alone all the time. he says hes not "happy" about having to date- but it's the only thing that helps him to survive. u know what i mean? but back to your question- i think a support group would definitely help.

Re: Help for Dad...
Cancer Care of LI (located in Woodbury) is a wonderful resource. They offer free one-on-one counseling in addition to group support.

Re: Help for Dad...
Thank you so much for your replies. I don't know why I didn't think of cancer care (we donated my mom's wigs to them), but it is a great resource. Thank you.
I know what you mean about not wanting/wanting dad to date. I know it will be so difficult, and my mother was the whole world to us, but i just hate seeing him so lonely, not knowing what to do with himself. I want to make life better for him, and I know that really, I can't.
And I also just miss my mother so much it aches all the time.
Thanks again for the advice. I'm sorry we all have this in common

Re: Help for Dad...
I'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, my dad has not been very cooperative with going out and socializing..its been over two years!!! But he did try some bereavement groups at Huntington Hospital and it seemed to help for the short time he went. Good luck and remember to grieve for yourself too. He'll find his way.
