help! Getting a student teacher and I dont know where to start!!
What am I supposed to do? What is required of me? him? I am overwhelmed... I know I observed for a few days and then took over all of the classes..is this normal???? any advice is greatly appreciated!

First week: Observed, graded papers, learned how to use the copy machine, started planning for the next week
Second week: Took over one class. My CP observed me and took notes on what she liked and didn't like
Third Week: Took over two classes. My CP observed me and took notes on what she liked and didn't like
Etc...

Thanks! I am going to talk to him tomorrow too and see what he wants to do, since we are starting a new unit in a week, would be perfect for him to start!

I student taught last year and he might have a guideline from his school what he needs to do, that you can follow.

I remember when I was student teaching (elementary) I observed for a good 2 weeks.
I then started with whatever I felt most comfortable with and taught one period. I slowly worked my way up.
By the end of the semester (4 months) I was almost teaching the entire day.
My cooperating teacher always was available to check out my lesson plans and help me out.
