Help! Getting mildew smell out of clothes!

So I unpacked some of my warmer clothes yesterday and it seems that the lid of the huge tupperware bin I store my clothes in was not on correctly. All of the clothes that were packed in there now REEK of mildew from my basement. Chat Icon

I washed a whole bunch of them yesterday but today they STILL stink.
I know bleach would be the best way to get rid of mildew, but nothing in there was white, so bleach is out.
I also don't want to wash them in water that's too hot either- since it's mostly sweaters, nice pants, etc that will definitely shrink.

Any ideas for safely getting the stink out?

TIA!

I read on here once to use white vinegar, although I haven't tried it so I am not sure if it works. It's worth a shot!

White Vingar is the best! Pour a cup into your wash cycle (with soap) and rinse twice (just to make sure it is all out) Good Luck!

I used to use this all of the time when DH would go to the bars and there was smoking....It works like a charm
