help! has anyone had to paint their DD's tap shoes for dance recital?

DDs tap shoes are black...they want us to paint them white for the recital.

what kind of paint did you use? what did you do about the laces? Buy new ribbon?

I can remember my Dad doing mine and my sisters for our recitals years ago...I seem to remember him just using a can of spray paint?

Shoe polish should also work. They will skuff fairly easily, ut I'm assumig you only need them white for 1-2 performances.

and what do you do about the laces? They are that ribbon-y type of lace. I guess maybe get new white ribbon from michaels or something? But than the ends may fray?

My mother would spray paint my tap shoes for recitals when I was little. She would just get ribbon at a craft store, I don't remember if it frayed though. I imagine since you only need it for that one day, it probably wouldn't.

I always used spray paint.

As for the ribbons I would get new ones. Check the craft stores or the craft section of Walmart they may sell new laces for them that will already have the tappered ends.

You can also buy them at a dance store but they will probably be a lot more money.

ETA: Try Payless for the ribbons. They sell all sorts of laces and they have a dance section too.
