Help! He's clamping his mouth shut when it's time to eat!

Ds is 5 months and we've been trying got eat with a spoon for the last week. He hates it and cries the whole time. Now he's learned to clamp his mouth shut when he sees the spoon coming and I can't get anything in, no matter how many faces and noises I make! How can we get past this? TIA!

Welcome to my world. Ive been giving Paige cereal/fruits & veggies since she was 4 months (she is 7 months now) and since then I think she has only finished maybe 3 jars of food.

She just doesnt want it. I try everyday and i also try different foods and she will take 4 spoonfuls and then shut her mouth and whine/cry.

She is gaining weight and everyone says not to worry. Ive told the ped. and he says to keep trying. Im waiting for the day when she will just open up and eat food and love it.

I wouldn't force it, just keep offering and if he doesn't want it, skip it. You want to keep mealtimes positiveChat Icon

Formula/BM should be their main source of nutrition for the 1st year, solids are just for practice. No worries!! he'll eat for you sooner or laterChat Icon Chat Icon

About two weeks after we started feeding Taylor cereal and fruit, she would just clamp up...sometimes opening a little for the choo choo train or whatever silly thing I could think of. The only thing that worked was I started heating the food, now she gobbles everything up.

8.5 months old, and we are still at this stage. I told dr, they said still offer him food 3 times a day.

he loves cheerios. loves cut up fruits, veggies, and chicken.

so, I make believe I am putting a cheerio in his mouth, while I am hiding spoon full of cereal...he opens up and I shove spoon in his mouth. he doesn't spit it out. When he catches on, I offer him a sip of water, do the same thing...opens his mouth, then shove spoon in.

I do this when I know he is hungry and just being silly. If he ate breakfast that morning then I let him slide with telling me no.

I EBF though...and the kid is seriously draining me.
