help! i need directions to the lower east side via train/subway! EDITED with another DUMB question - please i need help tonight!!!

i have to go to stanton street on saturday... NO CLUE! it's 145 stanton street (lower east side prep h.s.) - and the only directions i have say to take the F, J, M or Z to delancy-essex street.
okay i am CLUELESS. i am going to take the LIRR into penn and then hop on the subway. can i catch any of these from penn or do i have to take something else out of penn and then transfer somewhere? also, what do i do once i get off at delancy-essex? and about how long will my ride be after i get into penn, to get to the high school? can anyone help me and please be as specific as possible?! thanks!

edit- first off THANK YOU to everyone. i hopstopped it and it looks like i will take the F and get off at delancey, but my problem is then it says - go up the delancey/norfork exit - and head NORTH on norfork towards rivington, then make a right on stanton.
okay, super - but when i am in manhatten, i have no idea what north, south, east, west is. and it's even harder without number streets. now what?!

Re: help! i need directions to the lower east side via train/subway!

i would take the F. you can take that from penn.

use google map to check the 145 stanton address and it will show you exactly how to walk from the subway.

also, hopstop.com.

ETA: it will take you about a half hour on the subway. also, make sure you take it heading downtown/to coney island.

You can not take the F from Penn station. You will need to walk to 6th Avenue to catch the F.

I live right around there. You can get on the A C or E at Penn then transfer to the downtown F train at West 4th Street. Once you get off at Delancey-Essex Street it's about a 10 minute walk give or take not too long. Do you have the address to the school? I'm not sure if it's the one that I'm thinking of. If it is then the best thing when you get out of the F is to find Essex street and walk down a few blocks. If it's that school it's right on a corner. FM me if you want.

sorry, you're right. i meant to say that it is at 34 street/herald square/6th ave which is nearby penn ... to avoid transferring.

Hopstop should really be your friend. I noticed that you can now start the address from Long Island, and it gives door to door directions to wherever you need to go in any of the boros.

You can just ask someone where Stanton is...they'll point you in the right direction.
