Help: If your DH is on a different schedule than you...
what do you usually do for dinner? Because of his schedule, DH & I eat together about twice a week and I am horrible about eating well when I am alone. Help me out!

Re: Help: If your DH is on a different schedule than you...
Well, I TRY to eat a real meal once the baby goes to bed, but I rarely find the time or energy to cook. I find that if I make a bunch of stuff on Sunday, then freeze it and use it throughout the week, that helps. But honestly, we only see each other Sat. and Sun. and we usually eat out. It's hard.

You and I are in the same boat! Kev works nights and I usually only cook when he's home. Many times I don't even eat dinner - lately, I seem to only eat crap!

Re: Help: If your DH is on a different schedule than you...
Our schedules are so opposite sometimes. He eats horribly if I'm not around..mcdonalds, taco bell..etc..
I usually buy some easy quick stuff to have around for those nights. On Sunday if I'm not working I made big pots of stuff to have all week and then I just re-heat it.
I also have some lean cuisines and purdue turkey meatballs and the lowfat breaded cutlets and I throw together a quick tomato and cucumber salad and some rice. Easy no fuss stuff and I can eat that while watching the tube in my kitchen.
About once a month I treat myself to some sushi or chinese.
eta: I also just do cereal sometimes!

I will literally have raisins for dinner or some pretzels... I am horrible. I talk to my mother every night and she freaks when she asked me what I ate and I tell her. But I hate to cook and am so tired when I get home... I have to do better tho because I am putting on weight and know I need to watch my nutrition.

Oh, I also buy those Zataran's mixes lately that you just add chicken to. Those are good and quick. Or pasta. I'll throw together a quick marinara.

Re: Help: If your DH is on a different schedule than you...
Ray and I aren't on different schedules, but even with that, I try to cook things that will last us at least 2 days (including lunch for me) because it's easy and it's nice to have something homemade to eat.
I would make things that heat up really well so that you look forward to eating them
ets: Also, what about breakfast for dinner? Like an omelette and hashbrowns...it's easy to make and comforting

Oh there are plenty of weeks we order out, but I tend not to do that when he's not home. I don't know why. We order out more when we're together or we go out.
When I'm home alone I kind of feel like staying in and keeping it simple. Lots of times I just pick but I always have a few of those easy things in the fridge.
Find something easy that you like and keep it around. A bag of salad and some tuna is good too.

I skip dinner. My kids eat at my mom's & by the time I get them home, bathed & in bed, I'm wiped.
I was never much of a cook anyway. I eat a big breakfast & lunch now.

I gert home much later than DH. He usually makes dinner and eats without me... sometimes he'll eat a little when I get home. Stinks not being on the same schedule!

Daniela, buy some bagged salad, and pre cooked purdue chicken strips and make a salad. Or, you can also buy some soup and cold cuts, and have soup and a sandwich. When I am alone, I usually end up eating a Smart One.
