DH and I are stringly considering international adoption. We started researching and have learned most countries require a certain BMI. We aren't the skiniest couple and are worried this won't be an option for us now. Anyone come across this?

With international adoption each country has their own set of rules. some rules are more strictly followed than others. If you come across something that looks like it will cause you to be ruled out talk to a few agencies that work in that country and get their opinion. Definitely check with more than one agency. If we stopped our journey with the first agency we spoke with we would not have our son.

My husband and I are in the middle of adopting our beautiful boy from China. China has a BMI requirement of 40 which I almost did not make. Luckily, my doctor's office was able to work with me and weighed me on all of the office scales to find the one that gave me the BMI needed.

I have heard of agencies getting waivers for certain requirements (income, anti-depressant use, etc.) but I'm not sure if BMI is one. I do not agree with the BMI requirement but China makes the rules so we must follow.
