Help me make chochalate dipped strawberries and pretzels----please!!!!
Let me start out by saying that although I'm a pretty good cook, I don't bake and I have never dipped, but my 9 year old volunteered me to make strawberries and pretzels. Honestly, I don't even know where to buy the chocolate or how much I will need.
Any and all input is welcomed and appreciated.

Chocolate covered strawberrys are so easy to make. Just buy chocolate chips (the ones you use for the cookies) Put them in a pot and melt them (med heat) and keep mixing the chocolate. Once the chocolate is melted just dip the strawberrys in the chocolate. Put them on parchment paper and then put them in the fridge for a half hour. They will not stick to the paper.
Hope this helps! Good luck.
PS I would assume you would do the same with the pretzels but I never tried those.

You can buy chocolate melts at either Michaels or AC Moore..
I always microwave my chocolate in little spurts b/c once its burnt its garbage...I do like 30 seconds at a time..stir..30 seconds...stir..etc...
Wash and dry the strawberries...leave the stems on..(you use them as handles to aid in the dipping)...dip in chocolate, turning to coat evenly...place on wax paper covered cookie sheet...place in fridge until set.
Chocolate covered pretzels are the same way...If I do RODs I only do half of the pretzel and then dip the chocolate half in sprinkles too..when doing whole pretzels I melt the chocolate in a 8x8 pyrex dish to aid in the pretzel coating...just pop the pretzels in, turn using 2 forks, and place on wax paper covered cookie sheet.

When I make them I add a little (very little) heavy cream to the chocolate - makes it a little smoother. Good luck!!!!!!!

Yes you do the same with the pretzels.
Assuming you do not have a double-boiler, sice you have never done this before....take 2 pots (one bigger than the other), the bigger pot goes on the bottom and is partially filled with water. The top pot is filled with the chocolate. Heat the water so it begins to melt the chocolate. This method helps to control the heat, and prevents the chocolate from burning. Once it is overheated the chocolate will clump and it's wasted.
It's not that hard, I made them for x-mas.
If you want it a little easier, use pretzel rods, this way you only have to dip 3/4 of it and your fingers stay clean.
Good luck!

They sell this stuff in the stores now where you can just heat the container, mix it a few times and dip away. It is really good. I think it is by Hershey or Duncan Hines or someone like that. Check the baking aisle of your local grocery store!!!
Oh, and the strawberries in bulk at cosco or Bj's

A little bit of shortening also helps alot to get that hard shiny covering. Here is a great recipe I've used: AllRecipes
