Re: help me out for a friend..registry must haves and registry items that were a waste.
socks wash clothes cloth bibs
you get them anyway and WAY TOO many I had something like 76 wash clothes and about 50 pairs of socks! I returned most and still got more when the baby came! I think people use them as fillers - so you will get even if you don't register
same with cloth bibs....I got so many and the saying ones are cute for a photo op..but once they start eating solids, they use the plastic bibs so you can wash off the stains and use again the next meal without permanently staining them!
ETA: carters white onesies (Gerber's STINK) I tell all my friends reg for NB,3,6, and 9 months bec it is the one thing you will use in every size!

Re: help me out for a friend..registry must haves and registry items that were a waste.
mittens and hats - the indoor kind - dd hates hats and doesn't really scratch herself. if she did, frankly i'd prefer the long-sleeve onesies that fold over the baby's hands. socks are a waste too. i have far too many blankets too, but i like the ones i registered for best so i wouldn't say don't register for them. i'd also exchange just about all newborn size clothing for the next size up. my registry was pretty basic - tried hard to keep in mind the size of our apartment - so i don't feel like i have much else in the way of excess.

I love the carters onesies and side snap shirts and the matching carters soft pants. Stroller Car seat Fisher Price Papisan swing Bouncer Exersaucer (see if she can borrow one from a friend) Carter's jersey knit fitted sheets Carters velboa changing pad fitted sheet basket to contain all the diapers on the changing table snap and go frame greco snugride wait for a stroller until you see what you need. I made this mistake mclaren umbrella stroller bijorn and the bijorn bib because babies drool tiny love mobile

Must haves... Bouncer...my dd loves her bouncer. Its one of the only things that calms her down. Cloth Diapers...I use these for EVERYTHING!!! As burp cloths, bibs, on her changing table...if you BF i kept it under my boob to collect all the milk that would fall out of her mouth :) Baby Bijorn and bibs snap and go Tiny Love mobile Play mat Carter's white onsies...they are the best. Gerber's sizes run weird and feel cheap.

Re: help me out for a friend..registry must haves and registry items that were a waste.
Must have-
a big pack of cloth diapers to use as burp clothes and as everything else- like wiping the butt pastes off ur fingers, etc
enough safety blankets to switch when they get sweaty, peed on, spit up on
more bottles if ff (we originally bought 12 but then they end up at gmas, diaper bag, car, etc) Oh and 4oz bottles r a huge waste- they're done in 4 weeks... ugh
diaper genie refills- about one every 2 weeks
travel size things for ur diaper bag (but also realize it is much more cost effective to refill some of them- for example 2oz of triple paste is $9 but 16oz at bjs is $21 ($29 at bru).
make sure u have mylicon in the house b/c the first night w/ a gassy baby u and dh r gonna stare at each other and wanna cry (and maybe even will cry, lol, i dd)
clever ways to keep pacifiers around i.e. paci holders that clip onto stuff or those little pac bags (I have them clipped onto chairs)- u wanna keep pacis everywhere.
some NB sized clothes- just enough to get by for 2-3 weeks. d not listen to ur mom or whomever sas ur baby will "never" wear that and just buy 0-3- it's hardly ever true. Make sure u have at least two outfits to visit the ped in those first few weeks and then stuff for home. Yes, ur lo will outgrow them quick- but giant clothes look ridiculous and i'm sure are not comfortable.
I would say do not register for anything sentimental like frames, etc. People will grab tons of this stuff from bargain bins and bring it to ur shower as filler.
Also, don't register for 0-3. I did not get a ton at my shower but once the baby was born everyone that visited brought clothes and I am returning most of them.
When the baby is actually here u will reach for the easier thing to put on him that is climate appropriate (no matter how many hours u spent shopping for those cute expensive brand items...)
I think other wasteful things r very case by case basis b/c it just depends what ur baby likes.
No matter what u do end up registering for prepare to spend a lot of time and money in bru or bbb the first few weeks, lol. The good side is that if u KEEP BOXES AND PACKAGING u will at least be able to do exchanges.
