Help Me Pick Paint Color

I can't decide between these two colors. They are slate blues. I already have the Nantucket Fog sample on the wall at home, but not the Brittany Blue. Do you think they are too close in color to make the darker wall an accent wall and the rest of the room the lighter color? The bedding we have right now is light colors (slate blue, tan & white), but that is my summer duvet. I also have a nice chocolate brown comforter for the fall and winter with chocolate brown curtains and slate blue accent pillows. We will be buying dark brown furniture. Any thoughts? The room is 13x11.

Hi! Chat Icon

It's hard to tell paint colors on computer but on my monitor they accent each other nicely!

I have a blue and brown bedroom so of course I love your combo!

Re: Help Me Pick Paint Color

Hi D! Chat Icon How are you?

I think when you look at the paint swatch sample from the store, the darker color is darker and the lighter color is lighter in person. I think I might get a small can of the lighter color to test it. They don't have the lighter color in sample size. Chat Icon

I love the colors, just not sure which to pick or to do both? Chat Icon

I think there are more sample colors you can order on the BM website. They said they have 250 or so, and it didn't seem like that many in that kiosk thing.

Re: Help Me Pick Paint Color

Personally, I think they are too close to use as an accent.

What about a green to compliment the blue? Or even a very faint blush color (so it's not too feminine). Or even a light yellow.

I checked online - nope! You are right, I don't think the kiosk holds that many, but you never know. Chat Icon

Re: Help Me Pick Paint Color

I love the colors, but think they might be too close to do one as an accent wall - particularly if that wall gets a lot of light, which will make the color look lighter.

I have an accent wall in my bedroom (no pics yet though), but if it helps to give you an idea of what shade difference we did, we used Behr Sagey and then Egyptian Nile (a dark olive) as our accent wall.

Once everything was on the wall, the dark olive was definitely the accent wall, but it wasn't TOO dark, which is why I think you'd need a darker color to make it clear that you're doing an accent wall.

Sorry if this is a bit rambling. I'm hopped up on cold meds Chat Icon

You didn't ramble. It made sense even on cold meds. Chat Icon Chat Icon

They do look darker and lighter in person, so I'm going to do a test sample on the walls and see what happens. I went at lunch time and picked up a small can of the lighter color. So we will see what looks better on the walls. And maybe I will just go with one color and not two.

The colors you used sound very nice. Would love to see a pick some time.

From those images, not too similar. I would say it will probably work out great.

I know you have Nantucket For, that is where I got the idea from. Chat Icon They have the sample size of the Nantucket Fog, but not the Brittany Blue. Chat Icon Where do you get the big paper color to tape to the wall? I have never seen them. Thanks!Chat Icon

Re: Help Me Pick Paint Color

I think you can use both. An accent wall doesn't have to be "loud" it can be a little more subtle. I say go for it. I am sure it will be great.

Another option, I don't know if you thought of this but I will throw it out there, you could do a chair rail and the lighter color on top and darker on the bottom. Just a thought. Chat Icon

I hadn't thought about that. I will give it some thought and see if DH likes the idea or not. Thanks! Chat Icon

I think we are going to paint the whole room in the Brittany Blue and then when we decide where our bed is going we might paint that wall the Nantucket Fog. But we still don't know. Thanks for the suggestion! Chat Icon

I like this idea better than the accent wall. But that's just me. I am too chicken to commit to an a whole wall in a different color for fear that I would get tired of it. But the more traditional up down split would last longer in my design trends.

I was also just thinking, what if you did the ceiling in the lighter blue? While I'm not a fan of one wall, I am in favor of painted ceilings! Chat Icon

If you use only one color, I like Brittany Blue. They are both nice though, and I agree, the accent wall doesn't have to be such a contrast, and the two blues aren't so close.

If you can't get samples, I would buy a small can.
